Papaya Smoothie

This 3-ingredient Papaya Smoothie is an easy drink with many health benefits and one of my favorite ways to use up fresh papaya.

Smoothies are such a great way to enjoy fruit and this Papaya Smoothie is one of my favorites. Sometimes I end up with papayas that haven’t ripened properly and this smoothie is a great way to use them up instead of tossing them out.

What is Papaya?

Papaya is a tropical fruit that is juicy, sweet and great for smoothies. Ripe papayas taste a lot like melons but are a little less sweet and they have a very soft and creamy texture.

You know if a papaya is ripe if it has turned from green to yellow and, when you press on it, the inside feels soft. The nice thing about this smoothie is that you can use papayas that aren’t completely ripened.

Papaya contains a lot of vitamin C and antioxidants. It’s also supposed to help with digestion because it contains fiber and a digestive enzyme called papain.

How to Prepare a Papaya

I like to first slice the papaya in half lengthwise. This makes it easy to scoop out all of the black seeds inside, which you can discard.

Use a knife to cut away the outside skin so you are left with the flesh. Cut the flesh into chunks and you’re ready to make your smoothie.

Just blend the papaya with fat-free milk and some sugar until smooth. That’s it! It’s such an easy and refreshing treat.

  3. Hi Carolyn- Yes it’s like a smoothie! I drink it often. My mom read some article that it supposed to give you great skin and some other benefits. I haven’t noticed it doing anything for me, but I love how it tastes.

  4. Oooh, like a smoothie! A great use for not-perfect fruit.
