Every time Boyfriend and I have good beef noodle soup at some restaurant, Boyfriend always makes the comment that he wishes the beef noodle soup had the homemade noodles from A&J restaurant. After initially enjoying A&J, I no longer love it as much. I've found better beef noodle soup elsewhere and I find that A&J's quantity to be on the small side. I told Boyfriend there are a lot of places that make homemade noodles, not just A&J.

On this trip to the Bay Area, I took Boyfriend to Fatima Restaurant, a Muslim Chinese restaurant famous for their homemade knife shaved noodles (dao xiao mian). For lunch he ordered the beef noodle soup and I ordered the lamb noodle soup.

I was tempted to order their sesame pancake, which they are also famous for, but I knew we wouldn't be able to finish it, so I ended up not ordering it.

Though you can't really see it, there was tons of noodles in the bottom of the bowl.  The noodles were thick, doughy, chewy, and very filling.  Boyfriend's beef noodle soup was supposed to be spicy, but it wasn't spicy at all.  Boyfriend was so excited that he could handle the spiciness, and then I tasted it and told him it that was because it wasn't spicy. It was still enjoyable though. The only thing Boyfriend didn't like was that there was cilantro in the broth.

I really enjoyed my lamb noodle soup.  I always am trying to decide between the lamb chow mein or the lamb noodle soup. When I go with my family, I usually get the best of both worlds. I'll get the chow mein, and then my parents will order a big pot of lamb soup stew for the table. Since it was just me and Boyfriend, I couldn't really justify ordering the big pot, so I opted to get the individual lamb noodle soup. I was happy with my choice.

The broth was really good and the lamb pieces were very tender. I didn't realize until looking through these pictures that I didn't take any pictures of my meat, but there were a lot of pieces. There's very few places I know that serve lamb noodle soup; I wish there were more.

We finished our noodles and soup, but barely. Boyfriend really enjoyed this place. You can read about my previous visit here.
