Wendy’s Natural Cut Fries

Last week, I was given a chance to try Wendy’s new natural cut fries. I received the opportunity from Foodbuzz. As part of my acceptance to try the fries through Foodbuzz, I had to agree to do a review.

You may have seen the signs or advertisements for the revamping of Wendy’s fries. The new fries are cut with the skin on, and according to the company, this helps maintain a better taste and crisper fry. The fries are also sprinkled with sea salt.

We were assigned a specific Wendy’s location and certain times to try the fries. The one I went to was on Scripps Poway. I’m not quite sure why we had to go to a specific location because when I got there, they had no idea why I was there. Foodbuzz had mailed us each two $10 gift cards so that we could try the natural cut fries and bring a few friends to try them as well.

Because of the time assignment, it was just BF and I (I’ll bring my family on another date), so we ordered a medium fries. We also ordered a few chicken nuggets. I really enjoy the chicken nuggets at Wendy’s because the batter is light and you can actually taste chicken inside. A few months ago, they changed the batter to make it spicy. I actually preferred the non-spicy batter because the spicy taste masks the chicken.

I was never a big fan of Wendy’s old fries. Normally I can’t resist getting fries when I have fast food, but I found Wendy’s old fries to be mushy and tasteless so I stopped ordering them when I did dine at Wendy’s.

The new fries are definitely different. They are much crispier and have a better flavor. However, the sea salt makes them a little salty.

I definitely prefer these fries to the old ones though and I would order these fries again next time I visit Wendy’s, but I’ll have to spend some time wiping off  some of the salt before eating the fries.

Wendy’s: 10196 Scripps Poway Pkwy, San Diego, CA 92128

  1. You could always ask for unsalted fries.

  2. I liked Wendy’s old fries, but I usually like limp fries over cripsy fries. I’ve been meaning to try their new ones. I admit that McDonalds are my favorite and Burger King are my least favorite when it comes to fries.

I always get honey mustard sauce or dressing when there’s a choice, and I like Wendy’s honey mustard.

I think I’ll have to go to Wendy’s soon …

    • My brother likes limp fries and limp tater tots too. I’m not sure if you’ll like the new ones then since they are a lot crispier. They kind of remind me of the ones that Burger King came out with when they changed their fries years ago to compete with McDonald’s. I don’t know if BK still has the same fries since it’s been a really long since I’ve been. I can’t believe I haven’t tried this honey mustard sauce everyone is talking about. Time to take another trip and spend the rest of my gift card.

  3. I think sea salt is becoming very popular these days.
my dad just gave me some sea salt caramels.

I believe for awhile wendy’s also had a printable coupon for these fries. I have yet to redeem mine.

    • I saw the coupon! But I didn’t use it since I already had the gift card. I think sea salt can work well esp with sweet food like caramel or even coffee, but I don’t think they work well on these fries.

  4. Yum, I love Wendy’s fries and their chicken nuggets! I’ve been wanting to try the new fries for a while now so thanks for the review. What’s this Foodbuzz all about? I want in on that action!

    • You can find their site on http://www.foodbuzz.com
It’s a huge food blog community. If you write about food a lot on your blog, you can join their publisher network. There’s a link at the bottom of the page to try to join. Being a publisher, you occasionally get to try free products from the companies that advertise with them, and also by agreeing to display their ads (the big long ad on my site is a foodbuzz ad, and if you visit other food blogs, many others have them too), they pay you some money.

  5. How funny, I also tried the new Wendy’s fries at the same location last night on a whim because I was in the area. I just got my food to go though and after I had eaten all of the fries I thought, “I probably should have blogged about that, since it’s new”. I thought they were much better than their old crappy fries, but I do agree they were a touch salty, but I still really liked them.

    • Oh what a coincidence. I usually don’t visit this location since it’s not in an area I’m usually at. I do agree they are much better.

  6. Wendy’s old .99c chicken nuggets were the bomb. Now they raised the prices (of the regular nuggets) to like 1.50 or something for 5 pieces 🙁

We tried their spicy nuggets (.99c for 5 pieces) and didn’t like them.

What’s your favorite nugget sauce there? I SWEAR their honey mustard should be patented. It’s sooo good.

Will have to try out their new fries!

    • I agree, i like the old .99 nuggets better and I hate that they cost more than the spicy nuggets now. Hmm, I’ve never tried the honey mustard sauce. I’ll have to try it next time. I usually just get bbq.

  7. Dammit, Foodbuzz, where’s my invite to try the new fries?? Husband loves the new fries but he also like salty. I have to give them a try. I’m a french fry fiend.

And I LOVE Wendy’s chix nuggets too…with the honey mustard dipping sauce. Yum! Never tried the spicy though since it’s been literally years since I’ve eaten at a Wendy’s.

    • Gosh I need to try this honey mustard sauce! Aww, you didn’t get the invite? That’s too bad. Wow, he doesn’t think they are too salty? I think he is the first person I know who hasn’t complained about them being too salty.
