Expressly Gourmet and Amarin Thai

Not too long ago, a representative of Expressly Gourmet offered me a $50 coupon code to try out their services.

Expressly Gourmet is a restaurant delivery service currently available in San Diego, Portland and Denver. From their website, you can browse the menus of the restaurants available and place an order.

What I was really impressed with was the number of restaurant offerings. I’m used to having such a limited range of restaurants that can/will deliver to me because of distance. With Expressly Gourmet, I was able to order from restaurants outside of the normal delivery area limits.

Some restaurants have a delivery charge and some don’t. All the information is provided on the website. There doesn’t seem to be a rhyme or reason for the delivery charge. I found locations close to my home which had an $8 delivery charge and ones that were 20 minutes away that had no delivery charge.

The website also provides an approximate time. Almost all of the estimates were around one hour, so this is definitely something you need to plan for ahead of time.

To take full advantage of the service, I chose to order from Amarin Thai. The restaurant is located in Hillcrest. There are so many great restaurants in Hillcrest, but the parking is annoying and so we rarely venture there.  It’s also about 15-20 minutes drive from my house, meaning that they normally would not delivery to us. I also have been wanting to try Amarin Thai after hearing good things about it.

I placed the order online. Everything was pretty easy. An hour later, the doorbell rang and our food was here, still warm.

Whenever we order Thai food, there’s so many options I want to try. But there are so many “staple” dishes my family insists on that I don’t get to try many new dishes.  So we mainly had our staple dishes:

Drunken Noodles

This was my favorite dish of the night. The noodles had a nice chew, the spiciness level was perfect.

Pad Thai

I don’t know what it is, but I’ve been underwhelmed with every Pad Thai dish I’ve had lately. I’m thinking of trying to make my own next time.

Thai fried rice. I found this to be a little heavy on tomato sauce and wished for more spices instead.

Larb. The larb was served with lettuce pieces to make wraps.

Mango sticky rice.

The food was pretty good and I liked how convenient Expressly Gourmet was. I would definitely use the service again. It’s really perfect for me on those days I’m too lazy to cook but to tired to go out.

  1. Mmm, we love mango sticky rice! I’ll have to check out this service…sounds like a great way to get some good food without having to drag the kids out!

    • Oh yes, it would be perfect for you then. I thought the service was pretty good. I’m often lazy on Sundays. I don’t want to cook, but i don’t want to go out either. This is a perfect solution for those days.

  2. Yum, your pictures are making me hungry for Thai. I haven’t had Thai in over a month so I’m overdue.
