Yogurt on the Rocks and LevelUp

I recently stopped by Yogurt on the Rocks for some frozen yogurt and also to try out the new LevelUp app which let’s you pay easily with your smartphone and gives you extra savings.

I was a little wary to pay with an app, but the free credit available at each store when you pay with it made me want to try it out. I just love coupons and deals!

The application is free to download on your phone. Once you download it, you link a credit card to it and then a unique code is created. Your app will then provide you with a list of stores participating nearby. There are eight cities currently participating, including San Diego. In San Diego, there are currently more than 40 stores that accept LevelUp for payment and since I’ve signed up, there have been a few more stores added each week.

For each store, there is different amounts of credit available for your first visit which is displayed on your app and also here. Most places offer between $1-$3 for your first visit. There is also an opportunity to earn more savings after you spend over a certain amount, with the different stores offering different deals.

For Yogurt on the Rocks, on you first visit there is $1 credit available.  I can never say no to frozen yogurt, no matter what time of the year it is.

This was my first trip to Yogurt on the Rocks, though I’ve passed by it often. The yogurt is self serve and sold by weight (.39/oz). There were about a dozen flavors, I particularly was happy to see a pineapple sorbet which tasted a lot like Dole Whip.

The toppings ranged from candies to fruits. I got some mini caramel cups which were adorable and something I haven’t seen before. Usually it’s peanut butter cups. I also got something they labeled “strawberry boba” but it wasn’t the chewy tapioca balls. Instead, they burst open with strawberry juice when you bite in. I’ve seen them before at boba tea places, they are usually called something else, like yogurt eggs.

Once I got to the register, I immediately saw the LevelUp device at the front. It was basically a smartphone sitting on some sort of machine. All I had to do was tell them I was using LevelUp and then I opened up my app on my phone and placed my phone in front of theirs and it immediately scanned it and the transaction went through. Super super quick and easy. I immediately also saw the transaction go through on my end and got an email telling me of the transaction. And I got a $1 credit added to my LevelUp account to spend.

I was happy with how fast and quick this app worked and can’t wait to check it out at some more stores. Next up, I’m going to try it at Cremolose for my beloved gelato and the Prosciutto Fiorentine. $3 credit available for first visit!

You can sign up on the website. If you sign up using my referral link, you will get $5 credit to start with too.

Disclosure: I was contacted by a LevelUp representative to check out the new app and also provided with some credit to try it out. I was not compensated for the review and my opinions are my own.

  1. Yogurt on the rocks is my preferred spot, I’ve gone weeks at a time where I stop daily. I love supporting a place that isn’t a chain, and I like their product.

    • I don’t spend a lot of time in PB so this was my first time here. I liked the variety of flavors and toppings.

  2. The mini caramel cups are so adorable! I’ve had them at Yogurtland, but I think I would rather have mini peanut butter cups. They do have chopped up Reese’s peanut butter cups, but they’re just not as cute, you know? I wonder if the LevelUp app is available for Blackberry (I know, I am so last decade!).

    • I think it is available for Blackberry. Have you tried looking it up in your app store on your phone? I love mini PB cups too. I buy them at the grocery store. I liked the mini caramel ones especially since I havent seen that at the grocery store.
