Roy’s Happy Hour

Roy’s Happy Hour is offered seven days a week from 4:30-6:30 pm in the bar area. Six appetizers, along with a pretty good selection of cocktails, wine and beers are all $5 each.

I’ve been wanting to check it out for a while, and finally got a chance to a few weekends ago.

We started out with some cocktails:

Basil Cucumber Collins and Coconut Frappe

Mango Mojito

I couldn’t decide what appetizers to order, so we asked for them all. The waiter was great at taking our order, even combining some of the appetizers together so that they would fit at our table. We got almost all our food immediately.

Wagyu Beef Sliders

We were served two sliders on pretzel buns and some sweet potato fries. The burgers were very juicy and this was one of my favorite appetizers of the night.

Smoked Mahi Mahi Tacos

I really liked that the taco shells were actually taro chips. I haven’t seen taro used in such a way but being a big fan of taro, I loved it.

Beef Short Rib Tacos

I couldn’t really taste the Korean flavors that was supposed to be in the beef. And the meat was a little dry.

Tempura Crusted Spicy Ahi Roll

I thought this was a little small for $5 and nothing spectacular.

Big Island Ebi Roll

Again I thought this was too small for the price.

Lobster Potstickers

I liked the filling but thought they should have given more than three pieces for the price of $5.

I was really impressed with the service during our visit. Usually happy hour service at other places is slow and it’s hard to get the servers attention. But we were constantly checked on throughout our meal, our plates were cleared immediately, and our waters were refilled after only a few sips.

Overall, I was a little disappointed with the food offerings during happy hour but I liked the drink selections (especially if you like sweet cocktails) and I liked the service. I’d come back for drinks and their signature molten chocolate cake (you can order any menu items in the bar area too which is a nice bonus), but would go to Fleming’s instead if I’m looking for Happy Hour food.

I was there for their HH about 2 months ago. I’ve tried it out a few times and always left feeling the food was ‘meh’. And the food would always come out sooo FAST – and not in a good way. I couldn’t imagine paying full price for those appetizer items. But, the bartender was great and the drinks on HH were nice. I haven’t been back to Flemings in a while thou – how was the crowd at Roys? Was it super busy? I remember Flemings can be packed (Roys too).

We arrived right before the crowd. Afterwards, it got pretty busy. And the bar section is kind of small. Yeah I didn’t love the food but I enjoyed the drinks. I kind of liked that the food came out fast.

I’ve been meaning to try both Roy’s and Fleming’s! Thanks for the review–I definitely won’t waste money on app’s here if i can go somewhere else that’s better for my money.

I like the drink selection at Roy’s better but I prefer the food at Fleming’s. Wish I could combine both!

Oh! You’ve given me a new place to meet work friends for happy hour! Have you tried Fleming’s, Cafe Japengo, or Truluck’s for HH yet? All pretty good places to check out.

I’ve been to Fleming’s and Truluck’s. I need to check out Cafe Japengo too.

Hi Kirby! We posted about this recently. It looks like the menu is still the same. On our visit, I was very tempted to try all the happy hour items too but we ended up skipping dumplings and the cream cheese roll (ebi). The sliders are definitely the best appetizer here though. If you haven’t been lately, you should check out the new expanded bar area! It’s beautiful!

I haven’t been back for HH since the remodel. I need to check it out!
