British Airways Lounge

One of my highlights from my Europe honeymoon was actually the British Airways lounge inside London Heathrow Airport. I had so much fun here that I asked DH if we could just stay in the lounge our whole honeymoon. I’m pretty sure I would have been happy there for quite a while.

Since we were on our honeymoon, we decided to splurge and travel business class. I wanted it to be just like how you see it in the movies. Once we decided on this, I did a lot of research into the different airlines to find the one that would give the most perks for flying business class. My decision to fly British Airways was due in large part to the description of the lounge and I was not disappointed.

Our first lounge stint was actually in the American Airlines lounge, which is what is offered for our flights out of Paris and San Diego. It was small, with a few snacks, light meal, open bar. Nothing much to talk about and I didn’t really take any photos. But when we arrived in Heaththrow for our two hour layover, that is where the magic was.

There are actually several lounges available, I’m not sure if they are all equally as magnificent as we rested in the same one both times, nearest to after exiting the plane. Once inside, it’s ridiculously large. Like a small airport terminal in itself.

There is a fancy coffee machine, waters, little fridges stocked with sodas and beers, a library of wines too many to count. Multiple help yourself wine bars were stationed, each with racks full of different options.

There are snacks like cookies, biscuits, muffins, multiple chip flavors, pretzels. There’s a cold food bar with cereals. And there’s a hot food bar too, with soups, pastas, breads, cake.

Wireless internet is available as well as a very large selection of magazines and newspapers. We heard of massages as well, but they were elsewhere so we never got a chance to check them out.

They even have showers available!

I opted to only use DH’s phone for pictures because I didn’t want to disturb guests with my large camera. I can tell you I was a busy bee during the entire layover, exploring the place. I noticed some snacks or drinks would differ in different parts of the lounge, so I started checking every single food and beverage section. There definitely wasn’t enough time to eat and try everything but we managed to grab a light meal, try every single potato chip flavor offered, and sip on a small glass of wine. I was so sad when it was time to leave. Luckily, we had another chance to go to the lounge again on our return trip, but our layover was only about an hour. I might have to schedule a longer layover if we ever travel this way again.

  1. The best part of my dad’s job is that we get access to all business class lounges for free! Even if we travel economy! My favorite business class lounge so far is Narita airport, it’s so modern and the food is great! We pigged out on fresh sushi, many different kinds of rice balls, and there was so many types of dessert or biscuits. The worst we went to was an airport in Malaysia, it was really small and they didn’t have much food.

    • You are so lucky! Hmm you’re the second one who said Narita airport. I will have to keep that in mind. I’m kind of curious how it is in Taipei since I travel there every few years. Wondering if I can justify business class next time I visit.

  2. Whoaa sea salt & balsamic vinegar kettle chips? haha. (Sorry, that was my takeaway from this post…)

    • My fav part was the chips too. Lol. Actually there was a steak one which was my favorite flavor, but I couldn’t find a picture of it. Also some ranch flavored pretzels!

  3. wow, so cool that you got to see how the other half lives!

    i spy those chips!!!1

what a cool experience this was!

    • Hehe, I don’t know what happened to the steak ones. I couldn’t find a picture of them. I swear I took more pictures of the lounge but I guess not. I did feel really spoiled and wonder how I’ll go back to regular economy class.

  4. The food I understand, but showers?! Did you see people using them?? That’s crazy..

  5. Is that what traveling business class is like? Does upgrading to first class mean even better perks? I’m really missing out T.T

    • Traveling business class was pretty awesome. Actually for British Airways, there is no first class. They only had business class. It wasn’t just the lounge. We got to have a special entrance for security and ticketing so we didn’t have to wait in the longer lines. And the actual plane ride was really great. I’ll do a separate post on that, but the seats reclined all the way down so it was like sleeping on a bed, the food was better, snacks, drinks, tv screens, etc. Of course the cost of a ticket is also really expensive..

  6. Haha, nice lounge tour!

I haven’t been to many, but the ANA lounge in Narita airport is insaaaaaaane and I am obsessed with it, haha. Last time I went they had so much food, including a hot udon/soba station :o)

  7. You went to town! LOL

I hope to visit a lounge one of these days 🙂

  8. That looks quite nice .. much nicer than I expected. BUT – you really haven’t lived until you’ve seen the Virgin-Atlantic lounge at Heathrow where you can get a wide variety of food and drink as well as a haircut, massage, manicure, play some pool, watch a movie on a big screen, or just nap. Man, I love that place.
