Mango Lassi

It’s very easy to make your own mango lassi, a cool and creamy drink made with mango, at home. Serve it with your favorite Indian dishes or as a refreshing treat any time of day.

A mango lassi is a cool and creamy drink made with mango puree and yogurt. DH always orders a mango lassi when we go to an Indian restaurant because it’s cool and refreshing which helps take the edge off of all the spicy Indian dishes.

Like a lot of restaurant dishes, you can easily make your own mango lassi drinks at home. You only need a few ingredients and a blender to combine them.

How to Make a Mango Lassi

  • Non-fat plain Greek yogurt
  • Skim milk
  • Ice
  • Chopped mango
  • Sugar, to taste

A mango lassi is a lot like a smoothie. All you do is place all of the ingredients in a blender and process them until smooth. Serve the mango lassi right away.

Depending on how sweet your mango is, you may need to add more or less sugar. I recommend trying the mango lassi and then adding sugar a little at a time until you are happy with the amount of sweetness.

If you’ve ever had a mango lassi in a restaurant it might have also included cardamom, which is an Indian spice known for aiding digestion. I prefer my mango lassi without cardamom, but if you want to add it you can either blend it into the drink or sprinkle it over the top, like a garnish, before you serve it. A little goes a long way, so only add a pinch of cardamom if you use it.

We make this mango lassi quite often and love to make it for friends and family when they visit. It’s so cool and refreshing. If you like this recipe you might like my Watermelon Juice, Sweet Avocado Smoothie, Green Tea Smoothie, and Pumpkin Smoothie, too.

  1. I made this with almond milk and vanilla soy yogurt instead of the dairy and it tastes amazing! 🙂

  2. My daughter really likes these drinks when we go to Indian places. I would like it better if it didn’t have yogurt!

    • I actually like the tang of the yogurt and I think they use yogurt to coat the stomach from the spicy food. But I’ve also used heavy cream and milk to make mango milkshakes. So yummy!

  3. Love mango lassi! But I prefer mango puree from a can. It is hard to fine soft and ripe mango.

    • Hmm, I’ve never bought mango puree before. I use fresh mangoes when I can and when I don’t have those I use frozen cubes mangoes which I get at Costco and Trade Joe.

  4. Mango lassi is one of my favorite drinks, too. BTW I love the tea towels in your home cooking photos! This one is super cute!!
