Cafe LaTTea

Now this is a brick toast.

I only wish other places made their brick toast as massive and delicious looking. It’s literally a giant cube of toast that is filled with smaller cut-up pieces stacked liked bricks and then topped with ice cream, fruit, and other toppings.

I saw brick toast like this in Taiwan, but this is the first time I’ve seen it outside of Taiwan. Unfortunately for my fellow San Diegans, it’s back in the Bay Area and not in San Diego.

DH and I stopped by this new cafe on our last trip to my parents. I’m not so crazy about the name which seems like a typo. But I am definitely loving their brick toast.

The Taiwanese cafe also offers various drinks including snowfall teas and silky milk.

Snowfall tea is basically tea that is topped with sea salt foam. I believe the snowfall is the effect that happens when the drink is mixed, with the foam falling down onto the tea.

You can customize with various amounts of sweetness, including 0%, 30%, 60%, 100%, or even beyond 100% if you want it extra sweet.

DH ordered the silky milk. It’s another new trending drink where there is no tea at all, just sweetened milk. At first I didn’t really think I would like such a drink, but a lot of the flavored milk tea drinks are so sweet that the first time I had a sweetened milk drink, I didn’t even realize the tea was missing. My favorite version of the ice milk drink is from the Half & Half chain in Los Angeles. We both thought the version here was way too sweet.

Of course we had to order a brick toast. There are various flavor themes, which are all priced at around $10. This one had some name like “The Ultimate” or something to that nature, so we decided to go all out and get it.

While it came out looking really cool, next time I think I’ll opt for matcha or strawberry. I wasn’t crazy about the mini marshmallows, so much chocolate, and the Oreos.

The cube/brick of bread is hollowed, toasted and sweetened. Inside, it’s filled with little bricks of toast.

This was delicious and I’ve been craving another one ever since. The drinks were just okay, but I definitely want to come back for another brick toast, though next time I’ll opt for a different one. Let’s hope this comes to San Diego soon.

  1. Just went here today, I got the strawberry special which was okay, nothing too great. It mainly was strawberry Icecream and bread chunks, with no add ons except for ze fruit. Presentation was really awesome though, next time I’m going to try their drinks 🙂

    • I got the matcha one recently and it was mainly matcha ice cream and some fruit. For me, the best part is just the sweetened bread chunks so I don’t mind that they don’t have too many toppings. I also got the hazelnut chocolate milk tea and enjoyed that.

  2. Ummmm HOLY COW, that looks amazing!!

  3. The first time I saw honey toast, or brick toast as its become, was actually at an izakaya in Las Vegas! It was simple and amazing. I’m kind of not a fan of the new renditions made popular by Dazzling

    • I think it’s so interesting that you first spotted it in Vegas. I like the simple one too, but I also feel like I can easily make it at home rather than pay $4 for someone else to make it for me. This new rendition is much more time consuming and expensive to make on my own so that’s why I like getting it. Though I do think the toast suffers a little and is not as great as when it’s just a single piece. It might also be because so much of the toast pieces are crust pieces.

  4. There’s a place called Oh My Pan! in San Gabriel that sells really similar giant brick toast. You should check it out since it’s much closer to SD than the Bay Area is… 😛

  5. I love when you and DH come to the Bay Area because you blog about places that I can try up here :). The toast looks yummy and I’m going to add this to my yelp

  6. wow, now that is one loaded concoction there! i have cavities just from looking at that photo! 🙂

the only brick toast i’ve had was the one you gave me from 85C. maple, i think it was. i liked the texture and thickness of the toast.

  7. I prefer just a normal plain brick toast with butter and condensed milk 🙂
