Holiday Ham Dinner and a $100 Giveaway

Please note, the giveaway is now closed and a winner has been selected.

I love the holiday season. The gift giving, seeing family, and of course the food. Our December has been packed with holiday meals with friends and soon we’ll be having our family dinners too.

First, we’ll be having a Christmas meal with DH’s parents. I’ve been wracking my brain for easy menu ideas because we won’t have much time for preparation with work and our schedules.

Normally when I work with various product brands on this blog, I choose ones that I know and use on a daily basis. I confess, I didn’t know of Dietz & Watson when I was presented with the opportunity, but when I saw that they specialize in ham, I knew that this could potentially be the solution to my pre-Christmas dinner dilemma.

My family never did the traditional ham dinner, but DH’s family always does. I never much cared for ham until after I started spending time with DH’s family and now I quite look forward to it during the holidays.

I researched Dietz & Watson’s ham nutrition facts before agreeing to this review. I was most interested in the All Natural Uncured Classic Ham and I liked what I read: gluten free, no MSG, nitrate free and low sodium. DH’s parents have become much more health conscious recently, so this ham looked promising. For my purposes, I’ve always found ham to be too salty so I was happy to see this one was low sodium.

We purchased a ham this weekend to test it out. Since we couldn’t possibly finish an entire ham by ourselves, we decided to have an impromptu small gathering with some friends I wanted to see before the end of December. It also gave me an excuse to show off all the Christmas decorating I’ve been doing.

With the ham being the centerpiece, it was easy to put together a meal. We bought the ham and I had DH help me make it. Since it’s already precooked, it’s pretty easy to get ready. You just make a glaze and bake it in the oven. I made some desserts, my friends brought some sides so I didn’t have to the stress of having to do all the cooking, and dinner was set.

The ham was a great success. It was a noticeably less salty compared to other hams I’ve eaten. I especially liked the look of the cross sections on top.

So if ham is part of your holiday tradition, you may want to consider a Dietz & Watson brand ham.

Now onto the giveaway. One lucky reader will win a $100 Visa gift card courtesy of Dietz & Watson and BlogHer.

My favorite part is just getting together with family. This year is especially more special because we get to celebrate my cousin’s wedding. So seeing everyone in New Orleans will be the best.

My favorite part of the holiday season is the happiness that is felt. From the time I first hear the music, to the sights of christmas lights, the taste of the delicious food, to the scent of all the pine trees, wreaths, and decorations, and to the finally warmth that family gives just by being around them. I love this time of year because its so very happy and I get to be with the people that love me and I love.

Oops, I see that I need to answer a question! My favorite part of the holiday season is seeing my son, who is 6 this year, getting excited and the look of wonder and joy as we go visit Santa or decorate the Christmas tree. I think this will ALWAYS be my favorite part of the holiday season- watching, sharing, and loving my son and just happy to hear his squeals of joy during this time!!!

My favorite part of the holiday season is putting up the Christmas tree — my parents gave me the wooden ornaments they used to decorate the tree when I was a child. So, decorating the tree becomes a nice trip down memory lane and I love watching my son’s reaction whenever he discovers another ornament.

my favorite part of the holiday is sitting down with family and having a great meal. everyone makes their favorite dish and desert. Then we sit and share all of our milestones during the year. We all get to see each other and the things that happened during the year that created stress and drama is out the window….Everyone is laughing and sharing themselves with each other….its a happy time when we all focus on Jesus and the reason for the season. The family time and all the good times…..forget about the money and presents…its about jesus, family and having each other….

It’s a chaotic time, but I do love getting to see friends and family that I haven’t seen in a while. This year, one of my cousins brought his guitar, and we had in impromptu sing-along.
