Please note, the giveaway has now ended and Blogher has randomly chosen comment #49 as the winner.

With the holiday season in full effect, I hope you enjoy my participation in P&G’s “Have You Tried This Yet?” campaign, where I reviewed Bounty® Basic Paper Towels and COVERGIRL’s blast flipstick. I also get to host a giveaway to give my readers a chance to win a $100 Visa gift card.

I’m pretty familiar with the Bounty® brand of paper towels, and it’s my top choice when I’m buying paper towels. I find the Bounty® brand to be noticeably thicker and softer feeling compared to other brands. Plus, Bounty® cleans the mess with less because one sheet traps and locks the mess

So there’s the Bounty® I’m used to which usual has bright green packaging, but have you heard of Bounty® Basic, which has a yellow label? (Sorry, I had a picture, but seemed to have lost it. I will update a picture of the Basic paper towels later.)

Recently, I was selected to review Bounty® Basic Paper Towels as part of the “Have You Tried this Yet?” program from P&G. The idea of the program is to introduce brands to consumers to help improve everyday life. You can check out more details here. In addition, BlogHer is doing a Sweepstakes for a $100 Visa gift card, which you enter by leaving a comment.

Have You Tried This Yet? offers consumers various value saving opportunities throughout the year to try some of the program’s participating products like Bounty®:

  • brandSAVER: Complimentary coupon booklet, distributed in local Sunday newspapers nationwide, featuring more than $80 in savings on the campaign’s featured products.
  • brandSAMPLER: Samples and valuable coupons mailed directly to you.
  • eSAVER: Get coupons downloaded directly to your own personal shopper card.

The biggest difference about Bounty® Basic is that it’s only 1-ply, whereas the regular Bounty® is 2-ply. It does not feel as soft and absorbent as the Bounty® I’m used to, but it’s also priced less (about half the price). There are definitely situations in my life where I sometimes feel the thicker Bounty® towels go to waste when being used. For instance, a tiny spill, covering food being microwaved, or when they are being used as napkins.

Even though Bounty® Basic doesn’t feel as soft and thick as the 2-ply Bounty® towels, the 1-ply Basic ones still feel nicer than the 1-ply towels offered at my office and most business offices, which feel almost as rough as regular paper.

While I wouldn’t use these for a heavy duty clean-up, they are good for something small. You can save some money by using the cheaper priced paper towels for smaller situations and saving the super absorbent ones for bigger messes. It is also more environmentally friendly to use the 1-ply ones whenever possible rather than waste and use the 2-ply ones when they aren’t needed.

In addition to the Bounty Basic paper towels, I was also given a chance to review COVERGIRL’s blast flipstick. No it’s not edible and not really about food, but I think lipsticks still appeal to a lot of my readers, right?

The new blast flipstick provides two lipstick shades on one stick, which makes carrying lipstick around more convenient. There are quite a few color combinations to choose from, ranging from big contrasting dark to light shades on one stick, to more similar shades on one stick. On each stick, one side is a creamy shade and the other one is a shimmery shade. You can wear them individually or blend them into one, creating different shades for different occasions.

After much contemplating with all the color combinations, I chose a stick that had two shades of pink. A lighter, creamy pink for the daytime, and a darker shimmery pink which works great for the evening. The two colors work well together too, and I added a little bit of the sparkly pink to my daytime shade to highlight my lips a little more. So far, I’m loving my new lipstick. I love carrying around one stick that I can use multiple ways and I was impressed with the different combinations offered so that I can change it around depending on my mood, clothes, or the occassion.

I like the promotion. Hey! $100 gift card who can pass on that? But to win is tough!
I agree with you, Bounty is the best brand among the paper towels. 2 color lipsticks? I have tried this product in other brand about 15 years ago, not as good as I thought. Perhaps, Cover Girl has improved it. The idea was great, but the choices were poor when I tried it long time ago.

  2. Eva @ Eva Bakes — December 6, 2012 at 11:23 am

I already use Bounty paper towels every day. I use them to wipe up my kitchen table and my toddler’s messy hands after she eats her meals. I rarely wear lipstick, but the CoverGirl flipstick sounds great!

  3. Kelly D — December 6, 2012 at 11:42 am

Bounty Paper towels would help me clean up after my kids when they are done eating or working on an art project.

  5. Kay — December 6, 2012 at 11:51 am

I also use Bounty (green label) at home, but I agree with what you said about using Bounty Basic for small spills or covering food in the microwave, good ideas!!

  6. Lisa Brown — December 6, 2012 at 11:58 am

Bounty paper towels are convenient to use and make cleanups easy, and COVERGIRL Blast Flipstick is easy to use and would look great on.

    I like Bounty!

  9. Jessica — December 6, 2012 at 1:04 pm

I heard in high school (I don’t know if it’s accurate) that the average lipstick wearer ends up eating something like 2 pounds of lipstick in her (or his…) lifetime. So perhaps it is edible, even if it was just a high school rumor.

Bounty is definitely a good brand, one I do stock up on when its on sale.

  10. Christina — December 6, 2012 at 1:10 pm

The Bounty line of towels are always more durable and of a higher quality. I would use them around my house to clean up the small messes. Covergirl Blast Flipstick would probably look delicious on my lips. I have switched over to glosses to add the shimmer, but I would gladly switch back if the shimmery side makes me sparkle just a little. =)

  11. Paulina — December 6, 2012 at 1:45 pm

Sounds wasteful but I actually use Bounty to dry my face. And every girl could always use some lipstick.

I am very frugal/cheap when it comes to grocery shopping and I always buy the cheapest ones, and they work like cheap ones. I am sure buying Bounty would be nice. I might not have to use half a roll for one spill.

We use 1-ply paper towels as our napkins- just fold them up and they are way better then buying napkins from the store. We buy bounty for the 2-ply so I’m excited to try out the basics as I’m sure it’s better than the 1-ply we are using now!

I can totally see my using Bounty Basic in the kitchen and to clean up around the house. I’m using the “green” package Bounty right now but hadn’t noticed the new “Basic”. I’ll be looking for it.

Hey, I’m always interested in lipstick! I love that by carrying one tube you basically get three colors (one on each end and one by combining them)! Great idea and definitely something I would like in my own handbag!

    Thanks!

Bounty is my favorite kind of paper towels; they’d probably be used for what I use them for now – cleaning up after my little brother. Even though he’s a teenager, he manages to make a mess doing anything in the kitchen.

  75. KF — December 17, 2012 at 4:47 pm

I have used Bounty towels on and off for many years and have never been disappointed. Very good absorbency and help me wipe up little spills all the more expeditiously. As for Cover Girl, I haven’t used their makeup in a long time because I have had to cut back on my spending, as I’m out of a job right now, BUT the lipsticks I used were always nice with many vibrant colours to choose from!
