2 Ingredient Nutella Mousse

This Nutella mousse only has two ingredients and is very easy to make. The hardest part is waiting for it to set up in the refrigerator before you serve it.

I made a Nutella mousse this weekend that is super easy and healthier than regular chocolate mousse. Mr. K and I love creamy mousse desserts but I’m always too lazy to make it the traditional way.

So, lately, I’ve been playing around with healthier ways to make it and this Nutella mousse is super tasty and you can’t taste the healthy secret ingredient.

The healthy ingredient I used to make this easy mousse is tofu! I’ve used it before in desserts and I knew it would give the mousse the right texture and you can’t even taste it.

I’ve made chocolate mousse and avocado mousse with silken tofu and I was really excited to try it with Nutella. If you’ve been following this blog you already know how much I love Nutella recipes. It’s one of my favorite ingredients.

The best tofu to use in this recipe is firm tofu. Silken tofu (which I have used in similar recipes) does not work as well and creates a more pudding-like consistency. The firm kind gives it just the right texture.

How to Make It

Place the Nutella and tofu in a blender and process it until it’s smooth. Pour the mixture into ramekins or other small bowls.

Cover the bowls and chill the mousse for at least an hour before serving. I like to add some whipped cream when I serve it.

Can you taste the tofu?

You can’t taste the tofu in this mousse! Tofu does not really taste like anything straight out of the package and always needs seasoning when you use it to make savory dishes. For desserts, you can use it just as it is. It disappears into the Nutella and adds no discernable flavor, but gives the mousse a really nice creamy texture.

How long does tofu mousse keep in the refrigerator?

I recommend enjoying within three days of making it.

I really don’t like tofu so can I use something else?

If you don’t like tofu, you should try my chocolate avocado pudding. It has a different texture, but it’s a rich and chocolaty dessert that’s healthier than regular pudding. The avocado is a lot like tofu – you can’t taste it but it gives the pudding a really creamy texture.

This Nutella mousse only has 2 ingredients and one of them is tofu, which you can't taste at all! It's a no-cook dessert that's easy to make. All it needs is a few hours in the refrigerator to chill before serving. 

Ingredients

  • 6 oz firm tofu
  • 5 1/2 oz Nutella

Instructions

  • Blend tofu and Nutella on high speed in blender or food processor until no tofu chunks remain. Spoon into ramekin. Tap bottom of ramekins onto counter or other surface so that mousse levels out. Chill in refrigerator to set for several hours.

  1. Hi, can I substitute the firm tofu with silken tofu instead? will it affect the taste?

  2. I’ve made this quite a few times before and it is great, I also recently discovered another great method for making an easy mousse. Whip up about 250-300 ml of cream and mix a third of it with 3-4 ounces of any melted chocolate (I’ve used a dark chocolate with citrus rind in it and it was amazing) until it is fully combined then add to the rest of the cream and mix it in. then you just refrigerate it for a few hours and it is great.

  8. My aunt made this a while ago, and it was just regular chocolate flavor but I’m not sure what exactly the ingredients were that she added to the tofu…it turned out really yummy!

  10. LOVE this! tofu is such a neutral flavor and I can see how its the perfect texture to blend into this! Much healthier than using whipped cream or even eggs. I wonder what else could be blended with tofu to make a healthy(ish) mousse…
