Apple Mug Cake

I saw these adorable little apple bowls at Daiso in Costa Mesa and just had to buy them. The stem is actually a spoon. It’s perfect for single serving desserts.

So of course, I thought about making a mug cake. And until now I haven’t yet made an apple mug cake.

Since apple sauce is often used as a substitute to make a recipe healthier, this was the perfect opportunity to use apple sauce in a mug cake. I didn’t use any oil, so the cake isn’t as fluffy as some of the other ones I’ve made. It’s more like a muffin, but it’s still pretty tasty.

I added fresh apple chunks because the apple flavor was pretty light. The apples also make the cake more moist and breaks up the batter. I’ll try to fiddle with this some more to try to get a fluffier cake. I might have to give in and add a little bit of oil.

I can’t wait to use these bowls for other things like dessert soups.

    • I have hard time stopping myself from buying tons of ridiculously cute things I don’t really need from Daiso. hehe. The one in Costa Mesa is huge!

  7. Those apple bowls are so cute!

  8. Awwww, those bowls are so cute!

  9. Kirbie, these bowls are very cute. Is it Daiso exclusive or any asian(or maybe specifically a Japanese?) store will sell it? Or something similiar ? My favorite fruits are mangoes and oranges so those as bowls I’d love.

    I searched and get lots of results for bowl ;

    but nothing for apple bowl or fruit bowl.
    Thank You.

    • I’ve only seen it at Daiso. And actually only at the on in Costa Mesa, but then I haven’t really been to the others. There used to be in San Diego but it changed ownership and I know it’s not there. I’m sure there are other Japanese stores that might sell them but I haven’t seen this particular set anywhere else yet.
