Urban Bar & Grill

We were recently invited to check out Urban Bar & Grill located in downtown San Diego. It serves contemporary American Cuisine and has an atmosphere perfect for date night or a dinner with friends.

Bread sticks

Our dinner started out with some complimentary bread sticks. Soft, not too buttery, these were a good beginning to the meal.

Mussels and Pomme Frites

We shared an appetizer of mussels and pomme frites. We both really enjoyed this. The thin-cut fries were crunchy with a good douse of truffle oil. The mussels were cooked in a light wine sauce. The portion size was quite generous.

Boneless Ribeye with Blue Cheese

Urban Bar & Grill is a former steakhouse, so our server recommended the steaks. I went for the special of the night, a boneless ribeye. It was cooked a perfect medium rare and was still quite juicy even without the bone. I’m not a huge blue cheese fan so I could have done without it, but it was still a very good steak.

Bacon Wrapped Scallops

Mr. K opted to try the bacon wrapped scallops. I thought that the bacon overwhelmed the scallops, so I didn’t enjoy this dish quite as much. The wasabi mashed potatoes was an interesting concept. It was mild enough as to not leave anyone teary-eyed.

Overall though, we had a good time here. The atmosphere wasn’t too loud and there were a lot of booths, perfect for small groups. In addition to a diverse regular menu, they also have quite an extensive bar bites menu too.

You can view the dinner menu here and the bar bites menu here.

Please note, as indicated above, we were invited to come check out the restaurant and our meal was complimentary. I was not paid to write this review, and my opinions as always, remain my own.

Thank you for this review!! I am going this Friday for a birthday dinner. The mussels and pommes frites look delicious. Have you tried the one at Currant? During happy hour, it is a great deal!
