Dunkin’ Donuts Revisit

We recently paid a revisit to Dunkin’ Donuts and were happy to see that the hype has died down and there are no longer long lines.

Despite it being near closing time, there was still a good selection of donuts. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get a good photo of the display since the employees were constantly in front of it getting donut orders prepared for customers.

Since Easter is right around the corner, they were featuring peep donuts perched on flower shaped donuts. Normally I don’t care to eat peeps, but these were just so adorable. And since donuts are all the same price at Dunkin Donuts, even these specially decorated ones cost the same as the rest.

In addition to the peep donut, we also got a sour cream old fashioned donut, a glazed chocolate cake, toasted coconut, and powdered chocolate cake.

The sour cream old fashioned is much softer than other old-fashioned donuts I’ve had, but it was incredibly moist. I do wish it wasn’t so soft, and would have preferred a firmer exterior.

The other cake donuts were pretty good, basically full-sized versions of the munchkins I’ve been getting.

We also picked up an assorted box of 25 munchkins.

On my first visit, I had been discouraged that there were only 4 varieties, but this time there were 7.

While our order was bringing prepared, we learned that you can actually order a smaller amount of munchkins even though it isn’t listed on the menu. Mr. K was complaining that I got too many munchkins and should have asked if they offered a smaller amount. Of course he then proceeded to eat half the box before I stopped him.

I originally thought there was only 6 flavors, but I found a seventh after this photo. The munchkin flavors that day were glazed, glazed blueberry, sugared blueberry, glazed chocolate cake, cinnamon chocolate cake, sugared cake, and cinnamon cake.

As always, I found these munchkins extremely addicting and we polished them off in no time. They are small, but we end up eating much more than of the regular-sized donuts.

We also got an ice coffee which I drank on the car ride home, before I could take a photo. Unfortunately, it was actually quite disappointing because they didn’t properly mix the sugar and cream.

  1. I love it when Mr K tries to school you while eating the evidence in the ‘misfortune’ of buying too many munchkins 🙂

I have yet to try this place. Glad to hear the lines have died down.

My main question: is their coffee seriously THE BEST coffee? I see it being sold at Costco (I think) and have been so curious to purchase the beans and try them out.

    • Hehe, Mr. K always does that! I might be in the minority here, but I personally don’t visit for the coffee. I’ll get one when I’m there, but I’ve never really understood why the coffee is so famous. It’s pretty good for a donut shop but I don’t find it particularly memorable.

  2. The flower shaped donuts are so cute, but I don’t like the taste of peeps. They should offer flower shaped donuts all the time! 🙂

    • I initially spotted the flower shape on a cooling tray and I got so excited! I wish it was just flower shaped and I agree, I wish it was all the time. They could do glazed ones, frosted, powdered, etc.

  3. Funny, we got the same green-frosted Peep donut when we were in Boston recently! I knew there were lots of Dunkin Donuts in the Northeast, but they really seemed to be everywhere. I’m not a big donut fan, but it’s good to know that the hype has died down on the SD store.

    • I think Boston in particular has many more since DD was founded in MA. I remember passing by so many when I was in Boston. I hope you had a good trip!

  4. Awesome looking Easter donuts! I’d feel bad eating them…

  5. I used to love the plain glazed Munchkins; haven’t had any in so long. You must always eat off the eyes of the Peep first, then put it on a skewer and roast over a flame…they’ll be on sale in less than a week. There are special flavored Peeps available only at Target and other special flavors available only at WalMart.

  6. I still haven’t been to this DD yet… it seems like there are a lot of mixed reviews. I’m glad that they have more varieties for the munchkins, but sad that the iced coffee wasn’t properly mixed 🙁 The peeps are adorable, but I don’t like their taste 😛

    • I think it’s pretty much the same as all the other DD’s, so if you like DD you’ll like it, but if you’ve never had DD, well it’s not the best donuts. Like I mentioned in my first post, it’s really just the fact that they are so readily available (many locations, many are opened 24 hours) on the East Coast that makes them so popular. I don’t like how peeps taste either but since these were mini, it wasn’t as bad.
