Submarine Crab

Submarine Crab is a cajun-style seafood restaurant that recently opened in San Diego. The menu includes seafood boils, pastas and fog drinks. At the end of your meal, they also give you a fun way to wash your hands with soap bubbles created from dry ice (video at the end of the post)!

While we have a few cajun seafood restaurants in San Diego, I was intrigued by the menu of this new restaurant.

After ordering our food, we were given bibs and gloves for the seafood we were about to eat. I thought the gloves were a nice addition I don’t usually see as they kept our hands from getting dirty.

Our meal started with some complimentary shrimp chips.

The restaurant offers a variety of fog drinks that use dry ice.

This one is made up of passion fruit juice, basil seeds and rainbow jelly. The drink was actually brought to us by mistake but the owner let us keep it even after we let him know. It was a happy mistake as we loved watching the drink bubble and fog and it was tasty too.

Garlic Noodles

I can never resist ordering garlic noodles. These were pretty good. The noodles were tossed in a bold garlic butter sauce, with a little parmesan cheese to enhance the savoriness. I’d definitely order this dish again.

Combo #2 with torpedo sauce: 1 lb clams, 1 lb shrimp, 1 lb king crab legs

They offer three combination options for their seafood boil or you can order a la carte. We had three people and this was a good amount for all of us and gave us a chance to try a little of almost everything. The torpedo sauce uses all three of the other sauces offered: cajun, lemon pepper and garlic butter.

The boil also included andouille sausage, corn and potatoes.

At the end of our meal, our server brought out a bottle of soap water and dropped in a piece of dry ice. We were memorized by what happened next.

Soap bubbles rise to the top which you are then supposed to grab to wash your hands with. It is definitely the most fun I’ve ever had washing my hands.

Overall, we had a pretty good meal here. It was a fun experience and I’d come back again with friends. One thing to note though, they originally made a mistake on our bill. When we brought it to their attention they told us they would void the transaction and redo it. However our friend was actually billed twice when he checked his credit card later.

Submarine Crab also has two other restaurants, located in Garden Grove, California and Pembroke Pines, Florida.
