Trader Joe’s February Edition

The appearance of the latest Trader Joe’s Fearless Flyer in my mailbox served as a reminder that it’s been over a month since my last visit. So after reading through the flyer, I went to pick up some new items to try.

Mixed Nut Butter

I love all the different nut butters we have available now, but this is the first time I’ve seen so many combined into one. This one contains almonds, cashews, walnuts, Brazil nuts, hazelnuts, and pecans.

You really can taste the blend of nuts in the nut butter and it tastes creamy and, well, nutty. I love that it’s not too sweet, really allowing the natural sweetness of the nuts to shine.

Valencia Peanuts

These are being sold in both Oil Roasted Salted and Dry Roasted Unsalted. I purchased the dry roasted unsalted. According to the Fearless Flyer, these peanuts are supposed to be sweeter and peanuttier than other peanut varieties.

They looked really similar to some delicious peanuts from New Zealand I sampled last year, though Valencia peanuts are from New Mexico. These peanuts are often used to make natural peanut butter. I really enjoyed them. They are sweeter and nuttier than most peanuts and I usually don’t like eating peanuts by themselves, but love snacking on these.

Yuzu Hot Sauce

I found this on the new items display. Yuzu is a citrus fruit. It’s often used in Japanese cooking and I’ve really enjoyed how it can enhance certain dishes, so I was excited to try this hot sauce.

I like it. It’s spicy, salty, and citrusy. We’ve been using it in noodle soups.

Soft Strawberry Licorice Twists

I love old fashioned strawberry licorice, but I’m pretty picky about them. Most brands I’ve tasted have either been too waxy or too artificial tasting. Then I found ones I really like at ALDI and I buy them every time I shop there. I was excited to try out Trader Joe’s version. They actually taste just like the ones I’ve been buying from ALDI and since the two companies are related, I suspect they might be using the same supplier.

These are thick and chewy but also soft. I’m happy that Trader Joe’s sells them, so I have another option to stock up on my supply.

Everything But the Bagel Sesame Seasoning Blend

Maybe I haven’t been looking hard enough, but I haven’t seen this everything seasoning offered before. I’ve been wanting to make homemade bagels for a while now, so this will be perfect. I imagine it would also work well for bread rolls, English muffins, etc.

That’s it for now. I actually had quite a few more items I had planned on picking up but some items were out of stock and some of them didn’t look as I had imagined when reading through the flyer. I plan on going back soon for the Dried Carabao Mango, tri-color quinoa blend and a few more items. Let me know of any your favorites I should buy next time!

  1. This is great! I never thought of visiting Trader Joe’s but I think I’ll go explore at my local branch after reading your post!

  2. OK this might not seem strange to you but to me it’s the CRAZIEST THING. I was doing yoga at home this morning and found myself thinking “why don’t they ever make a peanut butter like mixture out of mixed nuts? Cos I love taking a handful of a mix and enjoying the flavors together”. So when I opened this post my face was like the surprised emoticon on my cell phone seeing that you featured just such a product! LOL. I have tried that bagel seasoning (I got it somewhere else though) and it’s a Very Good Idea too. 🙂

    • You are so creative, so I am not at all surprised that you thought of it! The idea didn’t occur to me until I saw it in the Trader Joe’s flyer, and now I really want to make my own. It makes so much sense!

  3. Whoa, dried carabao mango? That sounds intriguing! 🙂

  4. My favourite liquorice is the ‘Australisn Soft Eating Liquorice’ brand, I don’t know if you have it in the USA but it is THE BOMB. I hate actual liquorice flavour but the apple and blueberry-pomegranate ones are so good. They also have strawberry and raspberry, I think the Darrell Lee brand is similar.

  5. I’d love your opinion on the honey walnut shrimp.
