Back on the Juice!

A few weeks ago, a representative from POM contacted me and offered to send me some of their pomegranate juice to allow me to sample and come up with recipes.  Well I haven’t yet come up with any brilliant recipes (other than making cocktails with the juice), but I very much enjoyed the juice on its own and wanted to do a quick post about it.

Just a few short days after I informed the representative that I was interested in the free samples, a package arrived at my door, containing eight bottles of pomegranate juice! I was surprised by the generous amount of samples.  It’s definitely enough for me to drink on its own and experiment with.

This is not my first time trying POM juice.  In fact, I went through a phase a few years back when I drank a lot of it.  I started off with the regular pomegranate juice, and then began trying other flavors like pomegranate cherry or pomegranate blueberry.  One of the things I loved about POM juice are the cute, hourglass shape bottles.  I collected them for a while to see if I could make some interesting craft out of them, but the POM logos and nutrition value stuck on the back made it hard to convert it into anything nice.

Then I was introduced to POM teas, which came in these neat glasses which you could reuse.  I collected quite a few of these as well.  And then somehow, I don’t know why, I stopped buying them. And I haven’t drank them in a long time. Until POM contacted me.

One sip, and I remembered why I loved it so much.  POM boasts that it is 100% pomegranate juice, which I love.  I remember trying some other brands and they just weren’t the same.  I found some cheaper ones, but they were too sweet– you could definitely tell sugar had been added.  Pomegranates are a sweet and tart fruit.  The juice is a great thirst quencher.  I often have found that most fruit juices, while sweet and delicious to drink, also can make you thirstier.  The tart aftertaste of the POM juice does a good job of quenching your thirst.  When I take a sip of POM’s pomegranate juice, the aftertaste is very much like after eating a mouthful of pomegranate seeds.  Drinking POM’s pomegranate juice is like eating the fruit, without having to chew the seeds.

I love how the symbol has a heart in place of the “O.”  I definitely heart POM.  I’ve saved a few bottles which I’ve set aside so I can come up with some creative recipe.  I want to do something more than a cocktail.  Perhaps a dessert, or even a sauce for a main dish? We’ll see.  When I come up with something, I’ll post about it.

Meanwhile, thanks to POM, I’ve been reunited with this drink.

  1. Interesting! I never thought to cook with it until the people from POM contacted me. I always just drink it.

  2. I usually have 2 large bottles of POM in the fridge at all times. I’ve used it in salad dressings and I add it to flavor plain kefir for breakfast. I really like the blueberry POM. I thought about using it in muffins but that will have to wait until after the kitchen is back to normal.
