Sprinkles Cupcakes ATM

When Sprinkles Cupcakes announced last year that they were debuting a 24-hour Cupcake ATM, I have to admit, I was pretty excited.

Yes it might sound a bit gimmicky, but it’s also super convenient if you want a cupcake late at night or you just want to order one cupcake and don’t want to wait in the long lines at the store. Currently there is only one Sprinkles Cupcake ATM in California and it’s in Beverly Hills.

It’s located right next to the Sprinkles Cupcake Shop and Sprinkles Ice Cream.

On my last trip to LA, I finally got to try out the ATM. I was super lucky. There was absolutely no line, so I hopped on over while we were waiting for our Sprinkles Ice Cream. As soon as I got my cupcake there was a bit of a line but I’m guessing it moves fairly quickly.

It’s pretty easy to figure out. You choose your flavor, insert your credit card, and out pops a cupcake all boxed up.

One thing to note: you need to grab your cupcake fairly quickly. I was trying to take a picture of the whole process and suddenly my cupcake box went right back into the machine! I panicked for a minute, but then the machine re-released the cupcake about 30 seconds later. Whew!

I had such a thrill getting my cupcake dispensed from the ATM. And it really is convenient. I’m often craving a cupcake but don’t want to stand in the long lines. Or if I do stand in line, I end up buying several just because I had to wait in line.

I’m hoping they will eventually come to San Diego.

About two doors down, we noticed there was also an ATM for a pressed juice bar store too.

  1. That’s such a novel idea! But I feel like it would be super dangerous after a night out. I wonder what other vendors will make their way on the streets in the near future.

    • I’m curious too. I’m not sure how much profit one can make versus the cost of maintaining and setting up such a service.

  2. Oh my gosh, a cupcake ATM?!! Haha, in Australia we’re only just starting to get the hang of free Wifi in cafes… and the coffee window trend for takeaways (we’re slow behind the 8 ball. In everything). Do they add the cupcakes to the machine fresh daily? If so, I reckon I’d be visiting every day! On second thoughts, maybe it’s just as well they don’t sell them via ATM over here 😉 By the way, love your blog. I’ve only just discovered it (see, I told you Aussies are behind the 8 ball) and can’t wait to read through your archives! Thanks for sharing! x

    • yes the cupcakes are added fresh daily. Actually I believe they are stocked several times a day since it’s built with the cupcake bakery connected. So the cupcakes are definitely super fresh. I’m happy you found my blog all the way from Australia. Australia is on my must visit list!

  3. False! There is also one in Downtown Chicago!

    • Thanks for letting me know. I thought there was only one, especially since the website only listed the BH location.

  4. how much for 1 cupcake. This was LA and they assume ALL have $ so it was what, $5? is tax included?

  5. After we got our ice cream, there was a line for the ATM so we ended up going inside to get cupcakes. Were all the flavors available via the ATM?

    • You know I was just thinking about that. I can’t remember for sure, but I don’t think all the flavors were available. I remember thinking that the selection seemed a little small, but then I also hadn’t checked to see what was available that day in the store, so I didn’t compare. It had the major flavors, but it seemed to be missing some of the specialty flavors.
When we waited in line for the ice cream, the ATM machine was open. So I quickly went over. Once we got out from ice cream there was a constant small line near the ATM, so I’m glad I didn’t wait until later to get it.

  6. How original! But I thank God we don’t have these in Barcelona, it would make it too easy to overindulge and my monthly gym fee is quite pricey! 😉
