3 Ingredient Skinny Lemon Cake

I’ve been working on trying to make skinny lemon brownies. So far, I’ve failed twice at creating something close to what I have in mind, but I did manage to create this delicious, fluffy lemon cake. And it’s only 3 ingredients.

I was able to slice these into 20 decent sized servings (about the size of a brownie), which equals approximately 114 calories per square slice.

All you need is Duncan Hines Lemon Supreme Cake Mix, nonfat plaint Greek yogurt, and water. This cake is easy to assemble and ready to go in the oven in minutes. And you really don’t miss the eggs or oil at all.

Skinny Lemon Cake


1 box Duncan Hines Lemon Supreme Cake Mix
1 cup plain, nonfat Greek yogurt
1 cup water


1. Preheat oven to 350F and grease a 9 x 13 baking pan.
2. Combine cake mix, yogurt and water and mix on medium speed until batter is mostly smooth. Pour into pan. Bake for approximately 30 minutes or until toothpick inserted comes out clean.

  1. 3 ingredients? What about all the ones in the cake mix 😉

    • Yes, you are right, technically cake mix has a lot of stuff in it already, but it’s just “one item” you need rather than several. Perhaps I should call it 3 item lemon cake? It’s always hard to figure out how to properly define an ingredient. Peanut butter, Nutella, also have multiple ingredients inside too.

  2. Ok you got me….I saw 3 ingredients and I thought “what?” lol Cake mix actually has a LOT of ingredients in it though!

    • This is true. I didn’t mean to deceive but cake mix is one ingredient listing. I mean many “ingredients” have multiple things in them like peanut butter, nutella, etc. I am working on making one from scratch that I hope is very few ingredients without the use of cake mix.
