Latest Kitchen Tools and Equipment

I love collecting new kitchen tools and equipment. I recently acquired a few that I am really loving and wanted to share.

Progressive International Magnetic Measuring Spoons

I’ve gone through a few set of measuring spoons. The plastic ones break, sometimes I lose one in the set, etc. I recently got these and love them. What I love most is that the each spoon has measuring on both ends, which is so useful because many recipes will require more than one ingredient with the same measurement, so this allows you to keep measuring out your recipe without having to stop and wash your measuring spoon constantly. The magnetic strip is nice too because it keeps the whole set together. They don’t take up much room either.

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Pure Can Opener

Until recently I had no idea that there was such thing as a smooth edge/ safety can opener. All my life I’ve used the regular hand crank ones or the electric ones. When we recently moved, I found all sorts of unopened forgotten tools that I had previously bought or been gifted. I decided to break out this new can opener, thinking it was just a regular hand crank one.

When I opened my first can and it easily went across the entire rim, I thought “Oh no, this is broken. It didn’t cut through.” But then I inspected my can and to my surprise, it had!

This is the can, already cut:

Look at that smooth edge!

Instead of cutting into the top of the metal and created a jagged ring around the surface like the usual can openers, it instead cuts on the side. You exert very little pressure to twist and cut and the end result is a smooth edge cut. I’m always so worried about cutting myself on those jagged edges, but this one is super smooth. I am so in love with this can opener. It is a bit pricey though. I actually found a few well reviewed similar ones for about half the price. I don’t know if they are as good, but if you are interested in trying out a smooth edge opener and not willing to pay as much you can try this Kuhn Rikon one that got really good reviews.

Bialetti Pasta Pot

I was recently given this pot for review. I love the vibrant red color which matches some of the other red pots in my house, and I especially love the lid which drains out pasta water. The pot feel sturdy but isn’t too heavy so that you can lift and drain. When I first got it, it took me a while to figure out how to secure the lid on, but once I figured it out, it works great and has been a happy new addition to my kitchen. (Please note, the pot was provided to me for review. I was not further compensated.)

I use it for pasta, boiling potatoes, and just about anything where I need to drain out the water.

Chalk Labels

I recently bought these chalk labels so that I can organize my kitchen much like this Amazon photo:

I have done a few of them so far, but I’m not quite ready to debut mine yet. These work really great. I bought them with this liquid chalk marker. You can easily wipe off the chalk with water and they make my containers look so fancy! I plan on using them as labels in my garden too.

So that’s it for now. Is there anything totally awesome that you use in your kitchen you want to share? Have a great weekend everyone!

  1. We have one of those can openers. It is truly awesome. It’s good for reusing the can/lid, too, if necessary and you’re too lazy to put it in another container to put back into the fridge.

    • Oh i didnt even think about that! Oh geez, this will make Mr. K extra lazy. he hates putting stuff into another container. I feel like this can opener has been life changing

  2. I have the OXO can opener that leaves a smooth edge. Until I saw one at a friend’s house, I too had no idea those existed. The OXO is a little less expensive than the Henkels. I have the Martha Stewart/Avery chalk labels (purchased at Staples), but I’m going to get the liquid chalk marker (I didn’t know there was such a thing! I hate the feel of chalk!).

    • I saw the OXO one when I was doing some research. It looks like it works a little differently thank this one based on the handle part but it looks good too. I’m glad I’m not the only one who didnt know these type of can openers exist. I wish I knew sooner. I don’t ever want to go back to the old ones.

  3. Ooh I will have to try out that can opener. I’m so frustrated with mine =( Love the chalk labels, can’t wait to see yours!

    • I hope you love it as much as I do. I have always been frustrated with my old can openers too. They break down, they rust, etc. I loove this one. It’s so easy to use.

  4. wow, you still have unopened wedding gifts?
what do you do with old kitchen tools ?
how do the chalk labels affix, and when they do are they affixed forever and can be moved to different things…like used as sit down formal dinner nametags ?

    • the chalk labels are basically like stickers, with a sticky backing. Once they are on, they can’t be moved around.
We actually kept most of our wedding gifts unopened so we could wait until we moved into our house.
I keep most of my kitchen tools unless they are broken and then I throw those away

  5. Wow! That is the most awesome can opener! Is it easy to clean? I hate trying to clean where the cutting surface is.

    • It is a lot easier to clean than my previous can openers. And it also gets less dirty because a lot of the time, depending on what you are opening, it doesn’t even touch the inside food.

  6. I love the idea of the measuring spoons! They would be so handy and I need to buy some new ones anyways 🙂 They also look great for photographing which is just an added bonus!
