It’s often hard to get Mr. K to eat healthy, but one thing he really enjoys is baked or grilled tofu fries so we’ve been using our new grill a lot lately to make BBQ tofu fries.

We love BBQ tofu fries because they get really crispy and golden on the outside but stay nice and soft on the inside. Brushed with BBQ sauce, they’re one of our favorite summer snacks. Anyway, before we got our grill, I would make tofu fries in the oven or with our George Foreman grill, but since it’s summer and we have the new grill, we love cooking them outside. If you don’t have a grill, I’m also sharing how to bake them in the oven. I love them both ways.

Ingredients

I love that you only need two ingredients to make these crispy BBQ tofu fries: firm tofu and store-bought BBQ sauce.

Firm Tofu: Be sure to use firm tofu for this recipe. You don’t have to press it or do any other prep except slicing the block of tofu into fries. I like to slice the tofu into ½-inch thick fries and I pat them with paper towels to remove any moisture on the surface. This will help the tofu crisp up on the outside when it’s cooking on the grill.

BBQ Sauce: I used Stubb’s Spicy BBQ sauce but you can use your favorite store-bought BBQ sauce.

How to Grill Tofu

Preheat grill to 375°F. Brush the tofu fries with a thin layer of BBQ sauce.

Place the tofu fries on the grill grates and cook them for 20 to 25 minutes or until the outside turns golden and crispy. You might want to turn them halfway through the cooking time to ensure they cook evenly.

Brush them with more BBQ sauce before serving. I like to serve the tofu fries with BBQ sauce on the side for dipping.

How to Bake BBQ Tofu Fries

Baking BBQ tofu fries is just as easy as grilling them!

Preheat the oven to 375°F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.

Brush the tofu fries with BBQ sauce and place them in a single layer on the baking sheet. Bake the tofu fries for 20 to 25 minutes or until they are crispy. You may want to flip them halfway through the cooking time.

These BBQ tofu fries are so easy to make and tasty. Mr. K kept sneaking ones into his mouth before I could photo them and they were completely gone soon after. We’ll have to make a bigger batch next time.

  3. This recipe sounds pretty tasty!  Do you do anything to keep the tofu from sticking to the grill?

    • i didnt have any issues. i mean they do stick a little and leave grill marks, but it wasn’t to the point that we couldn’t get it off
