The Baked Bear (Carmel Valley)

The Baked Bear, known for their custom ice cream sandwiches, recently opened their fourth location in Carmel Valley.

We’ve always enjoyed the ice cream sandwiches here, especially the cookie brownie combination, and we were particularly excited by this newest opening as it’s the closest one to where we live and has ample parking.

For those familiar with The Baked Bear, things are pretty much the same at this newest spot. You choose from a selection of ice cream flavors, fresh baked cookies, brownies. You can make a cookie ice cream sandwich, a brownie ice cream sandwich, or a cookie brownie ice cream sandwich combination (my personal favorite). You can also add sprinkles and other toppings. They also have a few special menu items like the donut ice cream sandwich and bear bowl (warm chocolate chip cookie bowl with ice cream).

On our first visit here, I chose this combination. I usually get a chocolate chip cookie but decided to try the cookies and cream instead. I do think that cookie choice made my sandwich a tad too sweet, so next time I’ll stick to the chocolate chip cookie. But I still really love the brownie cookie combo. It’s the best of both worlds and the contrasting textures make the sandwich that much more enjoyable. I also love how much ice cream they pack into each sandwich.

Tip: You can ask for your sandwich to be warmed up. They put it on the waffle press for a few seconds so that it’s just a little melty, making it easier and more enjoyable to eat.

Mr. K chose to try the Bear Bowl. The warm cookie didn’t quite have the same gooey effect as a deep dish cookie. I personally prefer the ice cream sandwiches.

A few days later, we popped in on July 4th to get an ice cream sandwich with their patriotic sprinkles after seeing it on their Instagram feed. They were even offering the patriotic sprinkles for free. Look how festive this turned out!

I didn’t ask for this one to be warmed up which is why it’s not as compact as the one from the first visit. I wanted to make sure I could get this outside for a better photo and didn’t want it to melt too much.

I love this sign.

Overall, we’ve enjoyed our visits here and will definitely be coming back for more this summer. We love that it’s in a plaza with ample parking and it’s even in the same plaza as a Trader Joe’s!

  1. I’ve been wanting to try Baked Bear since they opened in PB and finally went to the new location this weekend!  Worth every calorie! Have you been inside the Rite Aid in the same shopping center? They have Thrifty frozen yogurt, with a setup similar to Yogurtland!

  2. That shopping center is going to be full of some really great spots to eat, I’ve heard. I’ll have to check out the Baked Bear location since it’s so close… at least until their Carmel Mountain spot opens!
