Kirbie's Cravings

Trader Joe’s March Edition

I recently purchased a few of Trader Joe’s new products and wanted to share my finds.

The Fearless Flyer for March was smaller than the previous Trader Joe’s flyers. And I didn’t find myself getting nearly as excited as I usually do when I read through, but once at the store, there were of course several items that piqued my interest.

Sweet Plantain Chips

I’ve had various plantain chip offerings from Trader Joe’s, but this may be my new favorite. I loved that the chips were oversized and crunchy and each of them have a wonderfully natural sweet finish.

Pretzel Croissants

I had originally planned on getting the new individual pretzel bread sticks featured in the Fearless Flyer, but then I found these pretzel croissants sitting next to them and they were so pretty that I ended up getting these instead.

For the most part, these tasted like your typical grocery store style croissant, except for the exterior, which is treated with baking soda to get that dark soft pretzel appearance and taste. The exterior did taste mildly of soft prezels, but I do wish this was more of a 50/50 hybird.

Extraordinary Eggs Marbled Chocolates

These are similar to the previous marbled chocolates I purchased and enjoyed. The egg shape is perfect for Easter, like fancier chocolate eggs for adults. We were buying these for Easter but ended up finishing an entire box already. So we ended up having to go back and buy a second one.

Parsnip Chips

Another new product I enjoyed are their parsnip chips. My only issue is that after looking at the nutrition facts, I was surprised by the high fat content, with each measly chip containing a gram of fat. I can’t see this being a regular snack.

Popcorn in a Pickle

This was an item featured a few months ago. We really enjoyed it and then it went out of stock for a while, but now it’s back. I know people have mixed feelings about this one and while it does initially taste strange, I find myself very much drawn to this popcorn. It basically tastes like popcorn coming out of a pickle jar.

Dark Chocolate Espresso Beans

No this isn’t a new item, but we love getting these from Trader Joe’s and I realized I’ve never shared our love for them before. Dark chocolate and espresso are two of my favorite things, so I love munching on a few of these in the afternoon.

That’s all for now. Hope everyone has a great weekend. As always, let me know if I missed out on anything I should make another trip for!

  1. Since I’ve been trying to cut down on simple carbs like tortilla chips, I’ve been OBSESSED with plantain chips, root chips, and those parsnip chips are SO good. Definitely more oily than I would have expected, but it’s nice to have whenever I get cravings for a bag of a potato chips, hahah.

  2. I’ve always wanted to make my own chocolate covered espresso chips, but I have no idea how to get the outer edges of the chocolate so smooth, and not flattened on the side that it rested on! Oh well.

  3. I couldn’t tell from the description in the flyer if the pretzel breadsticks were the ones they’ve had for a while, the short minibaguette-style ones that are 99 cents for one. (I had been reading fast, so it could be a completely different product.) If it is the minibaguette ones, those are wonderful, really nice and soft.

  4. Did you see the ‘three hottest peppers’ thing? It’s 3 kinds of peppers (like ghost, habanero, or something) in three shakers – we wanted to try it but couldn’t decide on what dish to use it on.

  5. Useful note!!! Popcorn in a Pickle is my favorite 🙂
