McDonald’s Sweet BBQ Bacon

McDonald’s recently introduced a new flavor, Sweet BBQ Bacon, to its Signature Crafted Sandwiches which is now available in San Diego County. Given my constant desire to always try new menu items, I partnered with San Diego County McDonald’s to try out the new sandwich flavor and share my thoughts.

Like all the other Signature Crafted Sandwiches, you are able to customize the flavor, the bun and the protein. I brought Mr. K along to lend an extra hand and stomach. We decided to create three Sweet BBQ Bacon sandwiches so that we could try all three proteins options.

The Sweet BBQ Bacon flavor adds grilled onions, thick-cut Applewood smoked bacon with maple seasoning, white cheddar cheese, sweet onion BBQ sauce, and golden crispy onions to the sandwich.

Normally, Sweet BBQ would not be my first choice for a flavor. I prefer savory sauces over sweet when it comes to my sandwiches, but I found myself really enjoying the sweet onion BBQ sauce. The sweetness of the BBQ sauce (which is made with sweet onions) is balanced out with the savory grilled onions, bacon, cheese and crispy onions.

I especially liked the addition of grilled onions to the sandwich and of course crispy smoked bacon and crispy onions are always enjoyable.

Of the three sandwiches, this one was my favorite. The buttermilk batter is light and crispy and I am partial to the Artisan roll with its rich and buttery flavor.

This was my second favorite of the trio we tried. The Sweet BBQ Bacon ingredients are ideal burger toppings so of course the combination tasted great when paired with the classic beef patty burger.

Sweet BBQ Bacon with Artisan Grilled Chicken served on an Artisan Roll

Usually the artisan grilled chicken is my go-to protein for the Signature Crafted Sandwiches. It’s a healthier choice and I love the generous piece of grilled chicken that spills out of the bread roll.

I did like how the crispy onions and bacon added some more texture to this sandwich. Of the three though, I just felt that the grilled chicken didn’t mix quite as well with the Sweet BBQ Bacon toppings compared to the other sandwiches.

Overall, we really enjoyed the new Sweet BBQ Bacon flavor, which arrives just in time to get you in the mood for summer. The Sweet BBQ Bacon flavor is available now at San Diego County McDonald’s.

As stated above, this post is provided in partnership with San Diego County McDonald’s. All opinions expressed are my own.
