January Things

It’s almost the end of January but I still feel like I’m trying to slowly ease my way into the new year.  Anyone else feel this way? Here are a few favorites and updates from this month.

Favorite bites

Uni pasta from EMC Seafood & Raw Bar.
photo of a bowl of Uni pasta from EMC Seafood & Raw BarI love uni and this uni pasta is one of the best I’ve had. The sauce is thick and creamy with a strong uni flavor.

Wagyu roll from Cloak & Petal.

Crispy Yucca Croquettes from Pisco Rotisserie & Cevicheria.
photo of Crispy Yucca Croquettes from Pisco Rotisserie & CevicheriaI recently went to the grand opening of the second location for Pisco. We quite enjoyed our meal and everything we tried, and these yucca croquettes were definitely a highlight. It’s been a long time since I’ve had properly fried yucca, so I was very pleased with these. They were light and crispy with a very tender interior.

Blog Updates

Recipes on Google Home– If you own a google home device (I bought a few minis during Christmas because they were on sale), you can now use the cooking assistant feature with recipes on my blog. Your google home will read out the ingredients and steps. I find it really helpful in the kitchen because I don’t have to stop every minute to check my phone for the next ingredient or step. You can read more about how to set it up here. Basically, you need to use the google home feature on your phone to find the recipe. When it pulls up a search result carousel, there should be an option to “send to google home,” and from there your google home device will be ready to assist you.

One thing you need to keep in mind is that it doesn’t work if you are just browsing the internet on your phone. It’s a little confusing because you will still see the “send to google home” option pop up if you’re browsing around for recipes, but it won’t actually send it to your google home device unless you start off by doing the search with the google home function on your phone.

YouTube channel

While this isn’t exactly new, I didn’t ever get around to really sharing this. You may have seen some of my recipe videos that play in some of the posts. A few months ago, I also created a youtube channel so I could have all the videos in one place for easy viewing and searching. If you’ve enjoyed the videos, you can subscribe to the channel here.

Non-Food Favorites

  • The Big Family Cooking Showdown is now available on Netflix and I watched the entire season in one weekend. If you enjoyed The Great British Baking Show, I think you’ll enjoy this one as well. It follows a similar format, though the contestants are families of three rather than individuals.
  • This Dior lip balm (affiliate link) in the shade Lilac Glow. I have a hard time finding a shade of lipstick I like. I prefer more natural shades and it’s hard for me to find something just a little bit darker than my lip color. My lips also get very dry and chapped and most lipsticks will crack or dry my lips more. This lip balm applies like a lipstick and is supposed to adjust to each person’s lip color. I wouldn’t have thought this particular shade would be right for me but this specific shade was recommended by a beauty blogger I follow and it really is a very complimentary shade. My lips also stay very moisturized.
