Avocado Roses and Toasts Nine Ways

I’m sharing nine of my favorite avocado toast variations, including several avocado rose toasts. The avocado toasts are perfect for a nice brunch and for Mother’s Day.

This is a post I’ve been wanting to write for a long time because I adore avocado toast and I learned how to make avocado roses last year. When I received my latest shipment of freshly picked avocados from the California Avocado Commission, I knew this was my chance to make the collage of avocado toasts I had been envisioning.

There are so many ways you can top your avocado toasts, as avocado pairs well with just about ingredient. Adding avocado to toast adds a creaminess and richness to toast.

To make the avocado roses takes a little more effort, but the end result is so pretty. The most important thing is choosing the right avocado. The avocado has to be ripe but still firm. You need to be able to peel away the skin without damaging any of the fruit. Then, you remove the pit and cut very thin slices.

If you only barely separate the slices from each other, you’ll have a small tight rose. You can separate the slices from each other further, so that the slices only barely overlap, to get a wider rose. One avocado half is enough for a small to medium rose. If you want a big and full rose, you can simply add on to the rose with the second avocado half.

If you don’t feel like making roses, you can serve your avocado toast by either mashing a ripe avocado onto your toast or lining your toast with avocado slices.

Instructions

  • How to make an avocado rose: Thinly slice avocado into slices between 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick. Gradually separate avocado slices and shape them into a spiral as you spread them out. See photos above for reference. For a medium rose, separate the slices more so they only barely overlap. For a small rose, keep the spiral tight and don’t separate the slices as much. To make a large rose, add onto the first rose with second avocado half.

Notes
