Roy’s and a Giveaway

Please note, the giveaway portion of this post is now closed. Congrats to entry #22!

The Roy’s restaurant I used to frequent underwent a makeover a few months ago, changing its name to Roy Yamaguchi’s Pacific Rim Cuisine, redesigning the interior and changing up the menu.

We were recently invited to check it out. I was also given an opportunity to host a $50 gift card giveaway, good for use at any Roy’s location.

The re-imagined menu keeps some of the old favorites but adds new dishes as well. The interior had also been redone. There is a larger lounge. And rather than just scattered tables, there were a line of booths in front of the open kitchen.

Seasoned Edamame Beans

The meal still starts with complimentary seasoned edamame beans.

Wagyu Beef for Two

We chose this as our appetizer. The meat is grilled over a hot stone and you just need to cook it a few seconds on each side. It’s served with some house-made ponzu sauce. This was a great way to start the meal.

Misoyaki Butterfish

This has always been a favorite of ours, so we were happy to see it still on the new menu. As always, the generous portion of fish fillet was soft, tender and melt-in-your-mouth. It’s served with some bok choy and a rice ball.

Shellfish Sampler (king crab, lobster, shrimp, udon noodles, citrus dashi broth)

This was something that seemed new and since I love seafood, I decided to try it. There was a good amount of each seafood item listed and just a little bit of udon noodles to bring it all together.

I loved the broth and the al dente noodles.

Chocolate Souffle

I’ve had chocolate souffles at many restaurants over the years, but my absolute favorite version has always been the one at Roy’s. The exterior is a thin layer of cake and the inside chocolate just flows out. This was as good as I remembered.

We had a good meal here and we really like the redesign of the La Jolla location. Now onto the giveaway!

One lucky reader will win a $50 gift card, good for use at any Roy’s location in the US. The contest will run until Friday October 18, 2013 at 11:59PM PST. I will use random.org to draw the winning entry.

To enter, leave a comment at the end of this post telling me what your favorite item at Roy’s is (or what you want to try if you haven’t been).

  42. Misoyaki butterfish is one of my favorite dishes. I also saw they have a new dessert – vanilla cremeaux that looks like it could be a competitior for creme brulee.

Was the shellfish messy to eat?

    • It was not too messy because they already cut into the shell so you could easily remove the flesh. I saw quite a few new desserts I wanted to try, but we ran out of room!
