In a small bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and baking powder. In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until smooth. Add the egg and vanilla and stir to combine. Add the dry ingredients, in batches, to the wet ingredients stirring until combined.
Form balls approximately 1 inch in diameter, place them on an ungreased baking sheet and flatten them to create round discs.
Bake the cookies for 8 to 10 minutes. Cool them on the cookie sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a baking rack to cool completely.

The original recipe says to use one teaspoon of dough for each cookie, but I think they are too small this way so I formed balls about 1-inch in diameter. I didn't get as many cookies this way (the original yield is 48 cookies), but I prefer bigger cookies.
