Scoops

Scoops is one of our favorite ice cream shops in LA, known for their infinite list of unique flavor pairings and generous scoop sizes.

On our last LA trip, we made an impromptu stop. We had already indulged in Sprinkles Ice Cream and Harajuku Crepe, but we were driving by, so I just had to make a quick visit.

One scoop (which is actually two large scoops) is only a mere $2.90. Every time we’ve visited, the 20 or so flavors offered are completely different from our previous visit. The only repeat we’ve seen is their brown brown bread ice cream, which is their most popular flavor and is always offered.

Some of the interesting flavors being offered on this occassion included cashew and hemp oil, maple and Oreo, chrysanthemum tea and rum, maple and butterfinger, peanut butter and strawberry, salty lavender and honey, pistachio and rose water, kabocha, and black currant and jasmine.

We opted to share one scoop of two flavors since we had just eaten back to back desserts.

Black Currant Jasmine and Brown Brown Bread

As you can see, this one scoop is a very generous two scoops and plenty for the two of us to share. The top scoop is the black currant, which was a little on the tart side.

The brown brown bread ice cream, which is the bottom scoop, is made of grape nuts, coated in brown sugar, and mixed with dulce de leche ice cream and caramel sauce. I never really enjoyed grape nuts as a kid, but I love the crunchy bits in the ice cream.

The Scoops ice cream consistency is similar to a homemade ice cream. It’s not as rich, and it melts pretty fast. But the flavors are very unique and the price is very reasonable, so we love stopping in here for a scoop if we are in the area.

Tips:

* The place is cash only.

* Get here early in the day. Fresh batches are made daily and once they run out, they run out. They tend to be out of a lot of flavors if you go later in the evening.
