The last couple of times I went to Nijiya for my grocery needs, I noticed that a new cafe was opening soon next door, replacing the former Red Berry.  While grocery shopping this weekend, I noticed that the grand opening sign was up.  I had to check it out.

The inside was cutely decorated.  The tables had all these cute balloon centerpieces.

The cafe offers frozen yogurt with self serve toppings.  They also have some boba drinks, shaved ice and Belgium waffles!  I wanted to sample a little of everything, but I was in a time crunch.  I didn't even have time to dine there.  So I ordered a Belgium waffle to go, and chose nutella as my topping.

Here are a couple more pictures of the cafe:

The Belgium waffle came in this takeout container.

The waffle was slightly smaller than I had thought it would be.  The top was full of nutella.  As much as I love nutella, it is very sweet, and usually I only put a thin layer of nutella on my toast, so I found the generous amount of nutella topping on this waffle a bit too sweet (though I'm glad they were generous with the topping quantity)

I'm not expert on Belgium waffles, so I don't know how "authentic" the waffle is.  It didn't taste like a regular waffle, and was thicker and chewier. It was hard to really taste the waffle because of the nutella.

I'll be back to try the shaved ice, yogurt and maybe a waffle with a different topping. Perrhaps green tea gelato topping?

  4. yeah maybe it would go better with gelato… i’ve seen waffles like that before, but i’d love to go to europe and see what an “authentic” belgian waffle is like!

  5. Wonderful pics Kirbie!
I’m sorry you didn’t like the waffle that much. I thought it was pretty good! But yes, I thought you’d get the green tea gelato w/ it! I’ll probably try that one next time i go back…
