Opened in 1951, Loveless Cafe is a Nashville institution, famous for their biscuits and other made-from-scratch Southern dishes.
Originally a motel and cafe, the motel ceased operation and was turned into shops, markets, event rooms, and a mail room for the restaurant.
There was about a 30 minute wait when we arrived. I actually didn’t mind, as I was eager to walk the grounds and check out the shops and market. The space was just so charming and overflowing with Southern hospitality. There was a lemonade stand set-up along one of the walking paths, outdoor games to pass the time, and more. The employees at the shops were very nice and welcoming and told us about their great online shop.
After ordering our food, we were immediately given a plate of their famous biscuits along with three flavors of house-made preserves.
The biscuits were indeed good. Warm, tender and buttery. They tasted even better with the preserves. I especially liked the blackberry preserve and ended up buying several from their shop.
Pit-Cooked Pork Barbeque and Two Eggs, stone ground grits
This was Mr. K’s entree. The portions, like most of the South, are very generous here. The pork bbq had a good smoky flavor to it, though he had a hard time finishing all his food.
Honey Fired BBQ Chicken, macaroni cheese, turnip greens
I ordered the special of the day. Unfortunately, I found the chicken to be a little dry and lacking in flavor.
Overall, we enjoyed our experience at Loveless Cafe. The biscuits were delicious, the service was warm and inviting. Even though it’s a little far from downtown Nashville, I do think it’s worth the trip to experience the classic and unique cafe.
