An orange-flavored sorbet that is creamy and refreshing. It is also very easy to make. You only need one ingredient to make it. It’s a healthy dessert or afternoon treat.

I came across the viral one ingredient tangerine sorbet recently and of course I had to try it for myself. This sorbet works with either oranges or tangerines.

Ingredients

  • Oranges (or tangerines)

You will want to use oranges or tangerines that are very sweet and preferably seedless.

How to Make Orange Sorbet

  • The oranges or tangerines are first peeled and then broken into individual segments. Remove as much of the pith as you can because that will make your sorbet bitter and also will make your sorbet less creamy.
  • Place the segments onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and freeze until solid. This can take a few hours but I like to do it overnight.Orange slices on a baking sheet
  • Once the oranges are frozen, place into a food processor and pulse at high speed. At first your mixture will be very crumbly but as you continue to mix, the mixture will become creamy. The texture will be a bit looser than your classic sorbet, but you should be able to pack it into an ice cream scoop for nice round scoops.Oranges pulsed in a food processor

Texture

This sorbet will have a little looser texture because it is very creamy and when you condense it into an ice cream scoop, it really does taste and resemble a sorbet. It is very light and refreshing and not too sweet.

You won't believe how easy it is to make this creamy orange sorbet. You only need one ingredient for this light and refreshing treat.

Ingredients

  • 2 large seedless oranges or about 7 tangerines

Instructions

  • Line a medium baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Remove peel from the oranges. Separate the oranges into individual segments, removing as much as the pith as possible. If your oranges have any seeds, remove them.
  • Place orange segments onto the prepared baking sheet. Place into freezer until the orange segments are frozen solid. This can take a few hours but I like to do it overnight.
  • Add oranges to a food processor. Process on high until mixture becomes crumbly. Use a spatula to scrape the sides of your food processor and then continue to mix until the mixture becomes creamy. You may need to stop your food processor a few times to scrape the sides.
  • Use an ice cream scoop to pack the sorbet into the scoop. Make sure to really pack it in because the texture is a little loose so you need to condense it. Release into small bowls and serve right away.

Notes

  • This recipe yields a little more than 2 cups of sorbet.
  • My oranges weighed 400 grams after being peeled. You can adjust the recipe to make more or less.
  • I recommend using very sweet oranges or tangerines. I used several varieties of oranges and tangerines and they were all very sweet and worked well.
  • This recipe works best with seedless oranges or tangerines. If they have seeds, it will still work but you will need to remove the seeds before freezing the segments.
  • This sorbet is creamiest when served right away. You can freeze leftovers but it is a little more icy after it is frozen again.
  • This recipe is based on the viral 1 ingredient tangerine sorbet recipe which I first saw on Pamela Salzman.

  1. Question:Are there other fruits, or maybe berries that would work with this recipe? Thanks so much!!!

  2. I love these recipes, easy to make and the ingredients are not complicated.

  3. Can you use a blender for this? If not, can you recommend a smaller food processor that works well? Thank you. Sounds delicious for my multi-allergy BF!

    • I don’t recommend a blender because it’s really hard for the orange pieces to get fully pulsed without the use of a food processor. I don’t have a small food processor so I don’t have one I can recommend.
