These wings are crispy, sticky, sweet and savory, with a hint of bourbon.
BBQ Season is here and with Memorial Weekend around the corner, my mind has definitely been on bbq recipes even though we actually have not yet bought a grill. We do plan on it soon though.
These wings can be grilled or made in the oven. The wings are cooked until the skin is super crispy. Then they are cooked again for a few minutes with a coke and bourbon glaze until it caramelizes on the skin. They are finished with an additional glaze of the sticky coke and bourbon sauce.
I was recently given a few mini bottles of Four Roses Bourbon to create a bbq related recipe and I immediately thought of making some sort of chicken dish. I had been wanting to try making coca cola wings and thought the coke would pair well with the bourbon and I was right.
This is seriously yummy. The sauce is sticky and slightly sweet from the coca cola reduction and has just a hint of the bourbon finish.

Coca Cola Bourbon Wings
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 lbs party chicken wings
for the glaze
- 3/4 cup coca cola
- 2 tbsp light soy sauce
- 1 tbsp brown sugar packed
- 2 tbsp shaoxing rice wine
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 2 tbsp + 1/2 tbsp bourbon
- 2 tsp cornstarch + 2 tbsp water
- optional garnish: fresh chopped scallions
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Place wings on pan and bake for 50-60 minutes until skin is thin and crispy and wings are a golden brown. You can also make these on a grill if desired.
- While wings are cooking, make the glaze. Combine coke, soy sauce, brown sugar, rice wine, garlic and 2 tbsp of the bourbon into a small saucepan and bring to a boil. Boil for about 3 minutes, stirring frequently. In a small bowl, mix cornstarch and water. Add mixture into the saucepan and stir and let glaze come to a boil again until sauce thickens. Turn off stove and immediately add in remaining 1/2 tbsp of bourbon, stirring in while glaze is still hot (you need to do this at the end so that it doesn't get completely cooked away).
- Remove finished wings and lightly brush wings with glaze. Turn oven temperature to 425°F. Place wings back, and bake for an additional 3-5 minutes. Watch wings carefully. You want the glaze to caramelize on the skin but you don't want the skin to burn. Remove wings and brush with remaining glaze. Garnish with chopped scallions if desired

Just finished making your wings ! Amazing !!
Used white wine and ran out of soy , so I substituted Korean BBQ sauce ! Came out wonderful ! This glaze is my new go to ! Thank you so much
I’m so glad you liked it!
Rum’s really my thing, so I’m gonna try this tomorrow with rum and maybe a little more soy sauce and maybe toss on some green onions for garnish. Sounds wonderful!! Also, I’ve only got Cherry ???? Coke on hand. Should be interesting… Thanks for the recipe! 🙂
sounds like some interesting flavors!
These wings look awesome! I actually like cooking my wings on the grill instead of in the oven. Cool twist with the whiskey and coke – which is also my favorite boozy beverage. I would have named these Whiskey Coke Wings haha. I always think it’s funny when we do our similar posts on the same day.
Hehe, I saw your post, love your sauce idea. I need to try grilling once I buy a grill!
Absolutely love the flavoring of these wings!!
thanks!
These are, like, the chicken wings of my dreams.
haha, nice!
