These apple oatmeal cookies are soft and chewy. They are just 3 ingredients and don’t require any flour, eggs, or butter. The cookies take only a few minutes to prepare and store well. They can be enjoyed for breakfast, snack or dessert.
These oatmeal cookies are so soft and chewy. If you are looking for a soft oatmeal cookie that isn’t packed with sugar, this recipe is for you.
Ingredients
- Rolled Oats
- Sweetened Applesauce
- Peanut Butter
Rolled Oats: Rolled oats are also known as old fashioned oats. You can also use quick oats if you prefer less chewiness.
Sweetened Applesauce: I recommend using sweetened applesauce because the cookies have no other added sugar and will not be sweet without the sweetened applesauce. You can use unsweetened if you are okay with the cookies not having much sweetness. Even using sweetened applesauce will only make these cookies lightly sweetened.
Peanut Butter: Make sure to use natural peanut butter. There should be no added oils in the ingredient list. You can also substitute with natural almond butter. For a nut-free substitute, you can try natural sunflower seed butter.
How to Make Apple Oatmeal Cookies
The applesauce and peanut butter are first mixed together. The oats are then stirred in. Use a cookie scoop to scoop the cookie dough onto your prepared baking sheet. Use the back of a spoon to flatten the cookies into thick round disks. The cookies are then ready to be baked and will need about 15 minutes in the oven.
Taste and Texture
The cookies are lightly sweet and taste of peanut butter and apples. The apple flavor is light. If you want even more apple flavor, you can add fresh chopped apples to the cookie batter or chopped dried apples.
The cookies are very soft and a little bit chewy from the oats.

3 Ingredient Apple Oatmeal Cookies
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup (128 g) sweetened applesauce
- 1/2 cup (128 g) natural peanut butter
- 3/4 cup (62 g) rolled oats or quick oats
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C). Line a large cookie sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
- Add applesauce and peanut butter to a large mixing bowl. Stir until the ingredients are fully mixed and the mixture is uniform in color. Add in oats and stir until they are evenly mixed in. Adding the oats should thicken the mixture. It will look like a thick batter rather than traditional cookie dough. If adding any mix-ins, add them in now.
- Use a 1.5 tbsp cookie scoop to scoop cookie dough and place onto prepared baking sheet, spacing cookies 1.5 inches apart.
- Use the back of a metal spoon to flatten dough until they are thick round disks (a little less than 1/2 inch thick). If your dough is too sticky, wet the spoon lightly and then smooth the surface of the cookies. Smooth and round the edges of the disks if needed. The cookies will not spread much during baking, so shape the cookies how you want the final outcome to be.
- Bake cookies for about 15 minutes or until done. Let cookies cool before removing and eating. Store cookies in airtight container at room temperature for 1-2 days or in the fridge or freezer for longer.
Notes
- The cookies are only lightly sweetened. If you prefer sweeter cookies you can add sweet mix-ins like chocolate chips.
- The cookies have a light apple flavor. For a stronger apple flavor, you can add fresh chopped apples (1/4 cup cut into 1/4 inch cubes) or dried chopped apples (1/4 cup cut into 1/4 inch cubes).
- Make sure to use natural peanut butter with no added oils in the ingredient list.

How do you get your cookies so nice and uniform / round ?
Tastes good.
I used peanut butter with palm oil, they came out good. Also used sweetened cinnamon applesauce.
I added dried cranberries, they were a bit on the crunchy side after baking.
We use a cookie scoop – this makes it easy to make each cookie with the same amount of dough. We also form the cookies into discs before baking them – you can read more about this in the post!
Just wondering – why no oils in the peanut butter?
In our testing, peanut butter with added oils does not work for this recipe. Extra oil can cause the cookies to spread too much.
This looks yummy but my husband and youngest son are allergic to peanuts. What’s a good substitute for peanut butter?
You can try another natural nut butter or sunflower seed butter.
I just finished making this recipe and it was absolutely delicious. I added raisins and pecans to half the batter which was a nice addition. This will definitely be a regular for me. I thought they were great as is, my boyfriend prefers things a little sweeter so I may add sugar or syrup next time. Thanks for the recipe!!
I’m so glad it turned out well for you. Thank you for sharing!
These cookies are so good! I’m pre diabetic and love sugar. These cookies just give it that little hint if sweetness I love. I eat some for breakfast and snack during the day.
I’m so glad you liked them!
Just made these. Awesome. Creamy. I did add chocolate chips and cinnamon to make them my own. Great, simple recipe
I’m glad you tried and liked them!
Delicious dishes in any case
Thanks!
Hello, wanted to try this but I think you mean 1/4 cup of oats instead of 3/4? As the grams suggest. Many thanks in advance for clarifying!
3/4 cup is correct and the grams provided is also correct.
