Lüke is one of several John Besh restaurants located in New Orleans. During our trip earlier this year, we stopped in for an early brunch with two other friends.
Eggs in a Jar
I was immediately drawn to this dish when I saw the name of it. Luckily my dining companions were equally curious. This was the highlight of our meal. It is also what inspired me to make my Creamy Cheese Grits with poached eggs and hollandaise.
The presentation of this dish was so cute and unique. Inside the jar was a bed of jalapeño cheese grits, poached eggs, and hollandaise sauce. Delicately fried shrimp hung from the brim of the jar. It was a very fun take on shrimp and grits and it tasted great too. The poached eggs, once broken and mixed with the grits, gave them an even creamier texture.
One of these days, I’m going to recreate this dish for a brunch party.
Crab Omelette
The tender omelette was stuffed with crab meat, tomato and asparagus. It was served with a salad of mixed greens. After a weekend of heavy meals where nearly everything was fried, this was a welcome sight. I did find the omelette a touch bland though.
Seafood Gumbo Á La Creole
We tried to get our hands on as many versions of gumbo as possible. We loved the dark roux but found it a bit too salty.
I am baffled where these fries came from. I assume they must have come with one of our entrees. I do remember that they weren’t very good despite their pretty appearance and we were a little disappointed that a high end establishment would serve such limp tasting fries.
Overall, we had a pleasant meal here. It was a little pricey, but that is to be expected when you’re at a celebrity chef’s restaurant. I wasn’t really blown away by anything we had except the Eggs in a Jar which was one of my favorite dishes of my trip.
