Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams is one of my all-time favorite ice cream shops. So when they opened a location in Los Angeles last year, I was more than a little excited.
This first West Coast location is fairly small–much smaller than the one I went to in Ohio. But they carry a good variety of Jeni’s ice creams and other products.
The staff was very friendly and patient when we visited, letting us try as many flavors as we liked. I’ve always been a fan of the ones that start with their sweet cream base, and actually sometimes I just want the sweet cream base on its own. We ended up bringing a pint of Jeni’s sweet cream home with us. Thank goodness for coolers.
Brown Butter Almond Brittle, Mango Lassi, and Sweet Cream
Mr. K and I shared a triple scoop. The ice creams were just as I remembered– rich, ultra creamy and very sweet. Jeni’s ice cream is definitely on the sweet side so I can’t always eat as much as I would like to in one sitting without feeling a sugar overload.
Sundae
My friend opted for a sundae. How cute is the waffle fortune cookie? I told myself I was going to make my own, especially since I have waffle cone maker, but I still haven’t gotten around to it. Hopefully, I will this summer.
Overall, we had a nice time here. The visit wasn’t quite as amazing as when we tried it for the first time in Ohio, but I think it was just the flavors offered that day. Jeni’s flavors rotate often and on this particular visit, my favorite flavors weren’t on the rotation. Also since it is a small space, there was nowhere to sit while enjoying our ice creams. Everyone was basically just standing around and eating. However, I am excited that there is now a location I can drive to instead of having to fly to. It still remains one of my favorite ice cream shops, perhaps tied with Salt & Straw.

Love Jeni’s!! I was in LA a couple weekends ago and we had just gotten breakfast + Salt & Straw for dessert when we ran into the Jeni’s ice cream truck in Venice. So tempting but the flavours also didn’t wow me that day. Good to know there is a physical store too though 🙂
Love that you can get both in LA now! If only they were closer together!
Wow! I wanna try that place. How was the pint you brought home? I tried putting ice cream in my cooler for 2 hours and it was soft and partially melted. 🙁
Mine was slightly melted, but not too bad. I had a cooler and a ton of ice packs which I buried the ice cream in (top, sides and bottom) and we drove straight home after buying it. Once I put it in the freezer, it was fine again.
We went there late last year and had one scoop each. They let us sample the flavors we were curious about as well which was nice. I just wish they had tables in there. We were able to find some seating inside on a bench but yeah, it’s awkward trying to eat ice cream here.
Yes! It’s a weird set-up for eating. They have that one lone bench and the area the place is in, there’s nowhere else outside to eat either. I think that does take away from the experience.
I agree. For a store that nice, there should be more seating. There aren’the sidewalk seating options either.
I definitely thought it was a very odd location choice.
