Blue Bottle Coffee recently opened its first San Diego cafe, located inside the new One Paseo plaza. The popular coffee roaster originated in Oakland, California.
The San Diego cafe offers a variety of espresso drinks, cold brew, and pastries.
It was quite a warm day, so we opted to try their cold brew and New Orleans-style iced coffee. Both of these drinks are also sold in cans/cartons which can be purchased in their cafe or at select supermarkets like Whole Foods and Bristol Farms.
Because we were dining in, they poured our drinks into real glasses. I am always excited when I get real glassware rather than disposable cups at coffee shops.
The New Orleans-style iced coffee did remind me of the iced coffees we had in New Orleans. It’s creamy, sweetened with cane sugar, with hints of chicory root.
The cold brew was quite enjoyable as well. It was smooth and strong. It was a good afternoon pick-me-up.
I couldn’t resist ordering something from their pastry selection as everything looked good. They were passing out liege wafel samples earlier and I really enjoyed it. I decided to try another item so I ordered the Salted Tahini Chocolate Chip Cookie.
The cookie was pretty good–though I think it would have been better served warm. I didn’t love it as much as the liege wafel sample I had, so next time I will definitely be ordering the wafel instead.
Overall, I enjoyed my first visit to the cafe and will definitely be back to try their espresso drinks. The staff were very friendly and the cafe was busy but still peaceful. There is a good amount of indoor and outdoor seating.
