These brownies contain all the flavors found in magic bars but in brownie form. The brownies are rich, chewy and fudgy. These brownies only need 4 ingredients and are easy to make.
These brownies are what happens when you blend all the ingredients in a magic bar together instead of layering them. While they may not look as impressive, they are so delicious. What I really love about these brownies is that they have the texture of a great brownie even though they aren’t made with traditional brownie ingredients. The brownies are fudgy, chewy, shiny and everything a brownie should be.
Ingredients
- Chocolate chips
- Condensed milk
- Graham crackers
- Walnuts
Magic bars do also usually contain shredded coconut. We left it out for these brownies because they are already so rich and have a lot of textures going on. But you can add shredded coconut to the brownies if you want.
Chocolate chips: The brownies are made with semi-sweet chocolate chips. We do recommend semi-sweet and not milk chocolate or white chocolate. The brownies will not set and will be too sweet if you use milk or white chocolate. The chocolate is melted down which is what creates the chocolate base for these brownies.
Condensed milk: Sweetened condensed milk acts as a binding agent and also creates a chewy, fudgy texture for these brownies.
Graham crackers: Graham crackers are crushed until fine crumbs and then added to the batter. They take the place of the flour used in brownies. They also add a nice honey flavor to the brownies.
Walnuts: Chopped walnuts are used to provide texture and to help cut some of the sweetness and richness of these brownies. I don’t normally like walnuts in my brownies but in this case I think they are really needed to prevent the brownies from tasting too rich.
How to Make Magic Bar Brownies
- The chocolate chips are first melted until smooth. The condensed milk is then mixed in until the batter is uniform in color. The graham cracker crumbs are then stirred in. Finally, fold in the chopped walnuts.
- The brownie batter is then poured into your prepared baking pan and baked until done.
Brownie Texture
These brownies have a chewy and fudgy texture just like traditional brownies. You won’t be able to tell that they aren’t made with regular brownie ingredients.

4 Ingredient Magic Bar Brownies
Ingredients
- 16 individual (60 g) graham crackers
- 1 cup (169 g) semisweet chocolate chips
- 1 (14 oz/397 g) can full fat sweetened condensed milk
- 1/2 cup (54 g) chopped walnuts
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C). Line an 8-inch square baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang on the sides for easy removal later.
- Add graham crackers to a food processor and process until they’re very finely crushed crumbs.
- Add chocolate chips to a large microwave-safe bowl. Heat in the microwave at full power in 30 second increments, stirring in between with a spatula, until the chocolate is completely smooth and melted.
- Add in the condensed milk and mix until the batter is uniform in color.
- Stir in the crushed graham crackers until they are evenly combined. Finally, fold in the chopped walnuts. The batter will be very thick but do your best to stir until evenly combined.
- Pour batter into the prepared baking pan. Use a spatula to even out the surface if needed.
- Bake for about 30 to 35 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let brownies cool completely before cutting. Because of how fudgy the brownies are, I recommend using a large sharp knife and heating the blade by dipping it into hot water before cutting (wiping the blade clean after each cut).

Notes
- Graham crackers are usually in a sheet with each sheet containing 4 individual crackers. This recipe uses 16 individual crackers or 4 cracker sheets.
- Make sure to use semisweet chocolate and not milk or white chocolate. The brownies will not set with milk or white chocolate.
- We didn't add shredded coconut to these brownies because they are already so rich and have so many different textures. But if you want to make them even more like magic bars, you can add shredded coconut.
- We don't recommend leaving out the walnuts because we feel the brownies are too rich and sweet without them.
- These brownies are very rich so we recommend cutting them into small squares for serving.

About how many cups should graham crackers equal?
Graham crackers are usually in a sheet with each sheet containing 4 individual crackers. This recipe uses 16 individual crackers or 4 cracker sheets. We are not sure of the total amount in cups as we have not measured it that way!

What’s 18 crackers in cups? I was going to use some other cookies I have. Thanks ?
We haven’t measured the graham crackers in cups so we are unsure what the amount would be for a substitute!
Love this recipe. My Grandmother made these and they were a favorite of all her grandchildren. So happy to see this recipe is still so popular.
We’re so happy to hear that!!
Total B’s no magic happens here at all
They are called magic bar brownies because they use all the ingredients used to make Magic Bars and turn them into a brownie. This is clearly explained in the post. We also think it is pretty magical that you can make brownies with just condensed milk, melted chocolate chips, and graham crackers.
Absolutely Awesome Brownie Recipe
Thank you!! We’re so glad you enjoyed this recipe!
I think Graham crackers are only available in the US & Cananda, what can the rest of the world use as a substitute? I have no idea the taste or texture of Graham crackers, to make my own substitute! Please advise!
You could try to another kind of cracker, such as digestive biscuits, but without testing it, we can’t be sure what the results will be.
Thank you so much. Me and my kids loved the brownies and you make it easy for me to do it
Thank you Jane! We’re so glad you and the kids loved these!!
Sounds like an interesting recipe. I have a can of coconut sweetened condensed milk I might try.
You say to cut the brownies into small pieces because they are so rich. Yet the yield for an 8 on pan is 12 brownies. Those are not small. I think 16 to 20 per pan would be small.
You can cut the brownies into whatever size works for you! That is just what we recommend!
Yummy
We’re happy you liked this recipe!
I recently (yesterday) made your 4 ingredient no bake lemon cream pie. delightfully good and extremely rich. I’m considering making this brownie recipe but would like to use sweetened condensed coconut milk. Do yo think this would work?
We have not tested this recipe with sweetened condensed coconut milk so we are unsure what the final results would be!
