As you’re reading this, I’m wrapping on a very quick, whirlwind trip to London and Paris. It may have been short, but I managed to spend nearly every second of it eating (as well as hitting the main attractions in London since this was my first visit).

My very first official meal in London was at Duck & Waffle, situated on the 40th floor of the Heron Tower, offering a gorgeous view of the cityscape. The restaurant is open 24 hours a day, which seems odd for such a prestigious restaurant, but it made it much easier for us to fit in a visit.

Duck and Waffle

I ordered their signature dish, consisting of a thick waffle, crispy duck confit and a fried duck egg. This reminded me much of the American Chicken and Waffles combination, but since I adore duck, it tasted so much better with the gamey protein. The confit here was delicious, crispy and moist. It didn’t quite match up to the duck confit I had in Paris at Chez Dumonet two years ago, but it was satisfying.

Traditional English Breakfast

Mr. K chose to order the traditional English breakfast which contains pork & herb sausage, two eggs, organic duroc bacon, grilled tomato, field mushroom, hash browns, Scottish black pudding and sourdough toast.

It was a hearty breakfast and he managed to polish off every last bite. I’m not sure how it stacks up with other English breakfasts as this ended up being the only time we had a chance to experience it, but he definitely enjoyed the quantity and the emphasis on meat. He also enjoyed the Scottish black pudding, which is basically a blood sausage. It’s an acquired taste and I’ve never been a fan of the pork blood flavor so I wasn’t as fond of this particular item.

Overall, we had a great first meal here. It is pricey, but so was just about everything in London. The views are absolutely amazing though and you ride up in an all glass high speed elevator. The ride on the way down made me shut my eyes though as we were dropping nearly as fast as an amusement park ride.

Pro Tip: It may be open 24/7, but make sure to book a reservation as this is a very popular destination.
