Sanrio recently partnered with Curry House for a limited time menu featuring its lazy egg character Gudetama. The multi-course meal includes various items that are all decorated with Gudetama’s face.
Gudetama is one of my favorite Sanrio characters so I couldn’t resist this adorable collaboration. The menu is available at all the Curry House locations in California. Unfortunately, while San Diego used to have a Curry House, it closed down a few years ago. So we went to the Irvine location instead.
The interior of the restaurant has a few Gudetama decorations as well.
The Gudetama meal is $29 and includes keema curry with a sunny side egg, salad, corn soup, custard pudding, drink, and a limited edition Gudetama x Curry House beanie.
This was almost too cute to eat. We went to a Gudetama cafe when we were in Japan and while the cafe had a much larger menu, I thought the presentation was nicer here.
I don’t quite know how they get the Gudetama likeness, but it seems to be a very thin transparent edible sheet placed on the egg and the custard. The corn soup most likely used a stencil.
Taste-wise, this was on par with most of the Curry House food I’ve had. I’ve always thought of Curry House as a solid option for curry but not my personal favorite.
Like most of my experiences with adorable food, I had a really hard time ruining Gudetama’s face. I ended up eating around the curry plate and then let Mr. K break the egg.
Mr. K opted for one of their regular menu items, a hamburger curry with an egg.
Overall, if you like Gudetama and eating cute foods, I think this is worth checking out. I thought the price was reasonable, especially since it also includes a beanie which I’m sure I’ll be wearing this winter. The promotion runs from October 20th, 2017 through January 20th, 2018 at all Curry House locations in California. You can read more about it here.
