One of the foods I was most looking forward to trying on my New Orleans trip were po’ boys. Well, I got my wish, sampling about 8 different ones during my stay.
My first stop was Mahony’s, home to to two award winning po’ boys.
The Peacemaker
Each sandwich comes in regular or large sizes. We chose to order the regular, which set us back $14.95. I was a little surprised by the high price, especially considering the origin of the sandwiches. Fresh French bread is piled high with lettuce, tomatoes,fried oysters, bacon and cheese. It’s definitely packed with flavor, but didn’t quite live up to the price.
Fried Chicken Livers & Slaw
This is their other award winner, and a regular one costs a more reasonable $7.95. The livers were fried quite nicely, but I found the hefty bread to be overwhelming, dominating most of the sandwich and making it feel dry.
Overall, we were a little underwhelmed by the award winning po’ boys here. Perhaps it was an off day or maybe I’m just not used to the bread, but we found the sandwiches to be just okay and thought the Peacemaker was quite pricey.

The best thing about the time I lived in New Orleans was the Roast Beef Po’Boys.Make ya slap yo mama!!
we had a roast beef one at Parkway that I really enjoyed, especially with all that gravy on the roast beef!
