Pepperoni Pizza Puffs

Pizza puffs are easy to make and a great appetizer or snack. They’re made with pepperoni and cheese and baked in a mini muffin pan. You can serve them plain or with a marinara sauce for dipping.

When I saw a recipe for pepperoni pizza puffs on the site The Family Table, I knew I had to make it for the BF. These pizza puffs are so easy to make. Normally I’m too lazy to whip up much on the weekdays after a long day of work, but I was able to prepare these in just a few minutes and then pop them in the oven.

These pizza puffs taste just like mini pizza bites. The pepperoni bits add a nice flavor. Next time I might put some more pepperoni pieces near the top of the batter to get a prettier puff.

Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour
  • Baking powder
  • Milk – nonfat, 2%, or whole milk. I used nonfat.
  • Egg
  • Shredded cheddar cheese
  • Chopped pepperoni

Recipe Instructions

Spray a 24-cup mini-muffin pan with nonstick cooking spray.

In a large bowl, stir the flour, baking powder, milk, egg, cheese, and pepperoni until combined. Spoon the batter into the pan filling the mini-muffin cups 2/3 full.

Bake in a preheated oven at 400°F for 15 to 17 minutes.

They’re best warm from the oven, but they will keep well for a few days at room temperature. Seal them in an airtight container and you can warm them up in the microwave for serving.

Variations

Cheese: You can also use shredded mozzarella cheese, provolone, or Parmesan cheese. You can do a mix, but don’t add more than 1 1/4 total of shredded cheese.

Meat: Instead of pepperoni you could do four ounces of cooked and crumbled Italian sausage.

Vegetarian: Or, skip the meat and add four ounces of finely chopped vegetables like bell peppers, olives, or cooked chopped mushrooms.

Seasoning and Herbs: You can also add a 1/2 teaspoon or so of dried herbs to the batter like dried oregano, parsley, thyme, or dried Italian seasoning. Or add some garlic or onion powder.

Heat: For a little spice, mix in a pinch or two of red pepper flakes into the batter.

Garnishes and Dipping Sauces: You can sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese over the top of the muffins before you bake them and then sprinkle chopped fresh parsley over the top for serving. Add marinara sauce, pizza sauce, or even ranch dressing on the side for dipping.

BF loves these as I thought he would. Of course, I had to make a big deal about how I had made this dish especially for him despite how tired I was, to rack up those extra brownie points. 😉

  1. My boyfriend has tried these and is seriously addicted.

  2. This is SUCH a boyfriend food, I love it!! It’s like a grown-up Totino’s Pizza Rolls.

  3. I have a distinct feeling my BF would also really like these… they look like pizza muffins! Cute 🙂

    • Heehee, they did come out looking like little muffins. Part of it was because I put too much batter in each muffin tin, but I think they look better puffy than flat.

  4. Haha, I’m definitely trying this out for Darwin tomorrow! I think I’ll add a bit more to it though, like bacon bits and mushrooms and then top it off with a little jalapeno. 😀 Thanks for the recipe Kirbie!

    • Your additions sound delicious! I was going for really quick and what was available in my fridge. But next time I think I’ll add some stuff too

  5. My husband would be thrilled if I served these with tomato sauce for dipping!
