French toast mug cake on a plate with fresh fruit

I’ve been on a renewed mug cake kick. This time, I made French toast in a mug.

It takes less than 5 minutes to put this together.

I love French toast, but it’s something I rarely make at home. I’m usually just too lazy. So I solved this problem with this ridiculously easy French toast in a mug. It’s easy to assemble and out pops this tower of French toast.

Mr. K loved this too. This is a perfect treat for lazy weekend mornings.

I love French toast, but it's something I rarely make at home. I'm usually just too lazy. So I solved this problem with this ridiculously easy French toast in a mug. It's easy to assemble and out pops this tower of French toast.

Ingredients

  • 1 slice bread the size usually used for toast (you can also use brioche bread for something fancier), cut into small cubes about 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch
  • 1/2 of a large egg whisked
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1/8 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar

Instructions

  • Place pieces of toast into a large microwave safe mug. First, circle the inside of the cup with cubes of toast, then fill the middle. Continue to stack up until you run out, so that it forms a tower of toast inside the mug.
  • In a separate cup, mix the egg, milk, cinnamon and sugar with a small whisk. Pour over toast, making sure that the batter touches all of the toast. Cook for about 1 minute in microwave or until egg custard mixture is completely cooked. You can eat in the mug or you can easily remove the tower of French toast from the mug onto a plate. Serve with syrup.
  • Note: this recipe is for one serving, but you can easily double to make two cups and then you don't need to halve the egg. Just make sure to cook each mug separately.

  1. I actually modified a little because I don’t like egg too much and I can’t have dairy either ????, but loved your recipe. I used 1/4 c. Almond Milk, 2 T. Raw agave syrup, cinnamon,  1 whole egg, and whisked it all together. Then I threw in  my 1 1/2 toasts into my mug and cooked at 2 min., but stopping every 30 second so it wouldn’t be so eggy. Thanks for the great idea !!!

  2. I just found your website and have been trying many of your recipes. I just made this one and it was really great! Thank you :)))

  3. OMG SO GOOD!! And really easy! I used really thin bread so I ended up with excess egg, but I eat my eggs with syrup anyways so it made me love it even more!

  4. oh man I just tried this and it was heaven! I wasnt expecting it to be so yummy! I doubled the recipe and it was sorta eggy but not enough to take away the flavor. I used potato bread because thats what we have at our house, but next time I might use Texas Toast since its thicker and hopefully will help with the eggyness.

  5. I’m sorry that haters gonna hate, however I doubled the recipe into one mug (I have a huge mug) and the result was eggy and tasted like egg and syrup. (Yuck!) I might try again soon. Next time I will double everything, add another slice of bread, another teaspoon of sugar, a 1/2 tbsp of milk and do 2/8 tsp of cinnamon instead of 1/8 teaspoon.

    • doubling the recipe in one mug might be the issue. that usually would be fine it was a cake, but for french toast, the custard might not have cooked evenly. I would suggest trying it with the amounts written

  6. This is fabulous! I made it for my little boy for breakfast, not thinking he would eat it but he loved it! He actually ate the whole thing! Thanks so much.

  7. Have you noticed how a lot of my comments involving calling you a genius? It’s b/c you are. <3

  8. Ummmmmmm, Kirbie I think you might be a genius. This looks SO. GOOD. Stealing the recipe for my blog!

  9. Do you need to spray the mug so it will be easy to take out when it is done?

  10. By toast, do you mean toasted bread, or just the bread that you make toast with?

Apologies if pedantic! This looks like an awesome recipe, and definitely something I will be trying soon 🙂
