Ballast Point Brewing & Spirits

Ballast Point recently opened a new tasting room in the Miramar area. The new location is huge–100,000 square feet of space. Not only is a there a spacious bar area for drinking and watching games, but there is also a lounge, dining area, private dining spice, and patio. It’s hard to describe in words just how much space it is without seeing it in person for yourself.

Currently the kitchen is not open, though it plans to be starting next month. There was a food truck offering food when we were visiting, but they were closing up and so we only ended up getting beers.

We’ve had a few beers from Ballast Point and really enjoyed them. There were about 40 beers on tap the night we visited. Tasters are $2 for most, or $5 for a trio flight, and most beers are around $5 for a full 8 oz pour.

Taster flight: Sea Monster, Victory at Sea Imperial Port, Victory at Sea Bourbon Barrel Aged

Second flight: Thai Chili Wahoo White, Grapefruit Sculpin, Haberno Sculpin

Beer is such a personal preference, so I won’t go into how I felt about each one. I love getting tasters because it allows me to sample more of the offerings.

The atmosphere was casual and relaxing and we really enjoyed our time here. I definitely want to come back more often, especially once they start serving food.

  1. We visited this location last weekend and friend LOVED it. The food option that day was a terrible bbq set-up by a third party (not a food truck). I wasn’t much of a Ballast fan before but this location (and variety of tap beers) kinda changed my mind. We really disliked the Thai Chili beer 🙁 It tasted like a cold lemony thai soup spiked with strong beer.

    • Oh the thai chili beer was actually one of my favorites. lol. i guess everyone’s beer preference really varies. I do love this location though. I can’t wait for a more permanent kitchen because the beers are so strong!
