Caffe Bene is chain from South Korea that recently opened a location in San Diego. They offer coffee, teas, desserts and more.

The place is quite spacious with a lot of tables and seating.

It was hard to decide what we wanted. Dessert options includes shaved ice, honey brick toast and liege waffles. Drinks range from teas and coffees to non-alcoholic mojitos.

Mango Berry Mojito

This was light and refreshing, though sweeter than the classic mojito. It actually tasted like they used sprite rather than club soda. Mixed in the drink were raspberries and mango pieces.

Caffe Bene is known for their liege waffles. This waffle sundae was topped with chocolate gelato, crushed Oreos, chocolate sauce and raspberries.

The liege waffle itself was crisp on the outside with fluffy, rich, buttery layers on the inside. I adore a good liege waffle but they are hard to find. I thought this one was fairly good compared to others I’ve had in San Diego, though it could have been a little chewier and denser. This seemed like an Asian spin on liege waffles.

Overall, we had a good first visit and we’d love to come back and explore more of the desserts. We love the open space and it seems like a good spot to hang out with friends and enjoy an afternoon.

  1. This might be a place I could take some of my girlfriends for dessert for an upcoming bday .  I like the look of those waffles while my friend loves brick toast.

  2. Great looking waffle!  I’m curious how a liege waffle is different from one at Original Pancake House or IHOP?

    • Liege waffles use a brioche base dough, so the texture should be more like brioche bread with buttery rich layers. It’s also denser and chewier than an American waffle
