With Fall just around the corner, this easy dessert captures Fall flavors in one bite. It’s a perfect little treat when you are craving something sweet.

Ingredients

  • Apple Butter
  • White Chocolate Chips

Apple Butter: Apple butter is a concentrated applesauce. Apples are cooked slowly in apple juice until the sugar caramelizes. Sometimes spices are also added. It does not actually contain any butter but is usually used as a spread. Apple butter has a stronger apple flavor and is not as watery as applesauce which is why it works so well in this fudge. I used store bought apple butter but you can also use homemade. Make sure to use unsweetened. You can make this with plain apple butter (just apples and apple juice) or with one that contains spices like cloves or cinnamon for more flavor. We recommend using one with spices so that the fudge has more flavor. Make sure your apple butter is thick. You don’t want a very runny consistency because it will prevent your fudge from setting.

White Chocolate Chips: White baking chips are melted until smooth to create the creamy base for this fudge. White baking chips are commonly referred to as white chocolate chips, so I use the two terms interchangeably, but they aren’t labeled white chocolate chips. Instead, they are usually labeled white baking chips or white morsels. This is because they aren’t made with cocoa butter. Make sure to use a good brand of white baking chips. Some brands don’t melt well.

How to Make Apple Fudge

The white chocolate is first melted until smooth. The apple butter is then mixed in until the mixture is uniform in color. Pour the fudge into your prepared loaf pan. Place into the freezer to set.

Texture and Sweetness

This fudge is creamy, smooth, and sweet. If you prefer a pure apple flavor, choose an apple butter that doesn’t contain any Fall spices. If you enjoy cozy Fall spices then use an apple butter that contains Fall spices.

Ingredients

  • 1 (12 oz/340 g) bag white baking chips
  • 1/3 cup (94 g) unsweetened apple butter room temperature

Instructions

  • Line an 8 x 4 inch loaf pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang on the sides for easy removal later.
  • Add white chocolate chips to a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in 15-30 second increments, stirring in between with a spatula, until it’s completely smooth and melted. Alternatively, you can also melt the chocolate on the stove using the double boiler method.
  • Stir in the apple butter with a spatula until the batter is smooth and uniform in color.
  • Pour mixture into the prepared loaf pan and spread in an even layer. Cover with plastic wrap and freeze until firm.
  • Once it is frozen solid, remove the pan from the freezer. Lift the fudge out of the pan using the parchment paper overhang and place it on a cutting board. Cut into 1-inch squares.
  • Serve immediately, or store them in an airtight container in the freezer until ready to eat.

Notes

  • Make sure to use a good quality brand of white baking chips. Some cheaper brands don't melt well. You also want to start with a fresh bag because old/stale white chocolate chips also don't melt well. I used Nestle.
  • You can use plain apple butter (just apples and apple juice) or ones flavored with spices like cloves or cinnamon. I recommend using one flavored with spices for more flavor, otherwise the apple flavor is very light in the fudge. You can also make this with homemade apple butter but I used store-bought.
  • I tested this with Eden and Langer brands of apple butter.
  • I like to let the fudge soften for a few minutes before eating but don't let it sit out too long at room temperature because it will turn too soft.

  1. I really loved this recipe. It came up just in time as I have to eliminate all forms of caffeine, which includes chocolate. It was easy and delicious. I made my own apple butter cooking down applesauce in my toaster oven as I couldn’t find unsweetened. Can’t wait to make it again.

  2. Had a chance to make this recipe it was amazing I used french vanilla chips instead of white tastes just like apple pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on it thanks for recipe!

  3. Can you make this with dark chocolate chips?
