Le Parfait Paris opened this weekend in downtown San Diego. The French-owned catering company has had its presence at farmer’s markets and a corporate office in the Mission Gorge area that is open to the public on weekdays.
We visited the corporate location earlier this year and sampled some of the offerings made by Chef Jean François Fays, who is from the south of France. At the time, I knew the downtown location was in the works and I’ve been following the progress ever since.
On Saturday morning, I was browsing catching up on Facebook when I came across the announcement that they were open. They had opened at 8 am and we stopped in around 11 am. While the store was up and running, it was clear they were still working to get things set up.
(Love these open windows!)
The bakery and cafe offers a variety of classic French pastries, breads, macarons, and cakes.
The staff that greeted us was friendly, and the display cases were filled with a huge amount of macarons and about a handful of cakes. Their pastries and breads were not yet available, which I was a little disappointed with, since I had enjoyed them at the corporate location.
Since we were meeting with some friends for lunch, we decided to get two individual cakes to go.
The one on the right is Le Bavarois. The vanilla bean mousse was light, delicate and filled with berries.
La Trilogie
This was a three layer chocolate mousse, which is rich, decadent and perfect for the chocolate lover.
Both desserts were enjoyable and exquisitely decorated.
I was really looking forward to getting The French Cheesecake, which is my absolute favorite dessert from this place. I think of it often. In contrast to the American-style cheesecake, it’s extremely light and airy and almost like a cheesecake mousse. Unfortunately, I didn’t see it on this visit so hopefully it will be there next time.
We’ll have to come back for the full experience since they weren’t quite ready on this opening morning, but things looked promising.

Those little desserts look so DARLING. I want to try them. And I also want to eat french bread.
I want French bread too. Hopefully they’ll have them next time I’m there. I love the cakes here!
Those individual cakes and macarons look so gorgeous! I’ve never heard of them, and I’m glad to hear that their corporate HQ is open to the public (I’m in Mission Gorge far more often than I am downtown).
Yes, the corporate location is small, but the baking factory is there, so you can stop in during the week (make sure you check the hours, as i believe it’s mainly serving a breakfast/lunch crowd and closes around 4, which is why it’s hard for me to go).
We went yesterday and ordered a savory item (quiche) and two sweet (chocolate almond croissant and 1 macaron). They were just putting out their breakfast pastries and the breads weren’t out yet (this was around 11:30. Loved the open space. They should get a lot of foot traffic in this location.
Hmm, so late to be putting out breakfast pastries! Hopefully they’ll settle in soon. I do love the open space too
