Several new poke shops have recently opened in San Diego, including Poke UTC.
You can make your own customized bowl or you can choose from one of their three quick bowl creations.
Brown rice, imitation crab, tuna and salmon with ponzu and mild spicy sauce, topped with masago eggs, green onions, cilantro and spicy mayonnaise
This was my customized creation. I was happy to see that there was no extra charge for brown rice or imitation crab. They also offer complimentary picked radish and potato salad, which I added to my bowl as well.
At $8.95, this was the lowest priced poke bowl I’ve had so far in San Diego. The rice was nicely cooked, with a little bit of vinegar seasoning. I also enjoyed the ponzu sauce that the fish was tossed in. I wished their fish scoops were slightly bigger as it seemed like a small serving when placed on the large bowl of rice. Overall though, we thought this was a pretty decent bowl of poke.
Kraken
Mr. K chose the Kraken quick bowl. He got his with white rice. It comes with tuna and octopus, seaweed salad, imitation crab, spicy mayonnaise, masago eggs, green onions and cilantro.
His bowl seemed slightly more full because of all the toppings. We both enjoyed the flavors of this bowl and found the fish and sauce were pretty well balanced.
Overall, we had a nice visit here. The staff was very friendly and the prices are reasonable. It’s great to see that there is a decent poke option in the UTC area.
Oooh this is so close to me XD
haha, when I was there I was thinking “where was this when I used to live here?”
