Bang Bang Chicken Lettuce Wraps are an easy and tasty meal ready in less than 30 minutes. Lettuce leaves are filled with ground chicken that is cooked and topped with an addictive bang bang sauce.

I’ve shared quite a few bang bang recipes over the years including my bang bang cauliflower, bang bang pasta, skinny bang bang zucchini noodles and crispy baked bang bang shrimp. But I’m always looking for new ways to use bang bang sauce.

My newest way is with these lettuce wraps. The dish comes together very quickly. For those unfamiliar, bang bang sauce was first made popular by Bonefish Grill. It’s a creamy, sweet, spicy and savory sauce. This version comes together with just 5 ingredients.

To make this dish, you whisk together a few ingredients for the sauce. Set aside. Cook your ground chicken. Add some of the sauce to the chicken. And then top your lettuce leaves with the chicken, more sauce, and fresh scallions. The flavors are great and I really enjoy the contrast of the hot and cold.

Recipe Tips

  • Thai sweet chili sauce is a key ingredient to the bang bang sauce. Make sure you buy Thai sweet chili and not regular Thai chili sauce (the latter is extremely spicy).
  • To make the sauce healthier, you can substitute half of the light mayonnaise with nonfat plain Greek yogurt. I think the sauce still tastes very flavorful and creamy with this substitution though the color of your sauce will be more of a salmon pink rather than orange.
  • To make the sauce even richer and thicker you can use full fat mayonnaise.
  • Thai sweet chili sauce is more sweet than spicy which is why the sauce also adds sriracha to add a little heat. You can adjust the sriracha if you would like more or less spice.
  • The sauce tastes good cold, room temperature or warmed up. For the drizzle on top of the lettuce wraps, I recommend room temperature or cold.
  • You can serve this dish with your favorite lettuce. I prefer using butter lettuce for lettuce wraps.
